Preview in dual pane

Hi, I just upgraded from 15.60 to 16.60 and discovered the preview pane feature. Since I exclusively use dual panes, I was wondering if there was a way to put the preview into the inactive pane rather than a third, new pane?

What would be the difference? You would not have dual panes anymore since one is used for the preview. This you can achieve already now by showing a single pane + the preview pane.
