Folder View: parent different from child

I have a folder with thousands of subfolders. In this screenshot, I customized the columns to liking within one of the subfolders, and under View Settings, chose "Apply this Folder View Also To..." and set the target as the parent, with "Include subfolders" checked. This makes all the children have the desired column layout.

However, I wish to have a different column layout for the parent (some of the columns are are not relevant at the parent level), but changes made to the parent layout (even after unticking "include subfolders") appear to cause the settings for the subfolders to be lost.

I do not want to set either as the "Default".

Is it possible to have a folder with a specific column layout, but its children to have a different one? Sorry if I am missing the obvious, can someone help to explain?

Thanks!

Save an FVS with the parent folder path, and another with parent path\* as location, and that should give you the setup you want.

Code: Select all

S:\Audio\Lossless (keep Include Subfolders UNchecked)
S:\Audio\Lossless\*
Go to S:\Audio\Lossless, set up its layout, save the first FVS.
Then go to a child folder, do the same. But this time, pick "Folder View Settings > Edit" after saving the FVS, and put the second location given above.
