Is XYplorer's copy function fundamentally better?

My hard drive crapped out and somewhere along the way, I decided to turn on XYplorer's copy function to move what files I could to a new HD. With custom copy, I have found that I am running into a lot less errors and my PC hasn't gotten a BSOD yet. I'm sure that a lot of it has to do with the fact that I allowed the hard drive to cool down (the HD died because I was dumb enough to keep it running at over 150 F), but is XYplorer's implementation inherently better in some way? It does seem faster and more stable to me.
