I am running on a high-dpi screen... (Surface Pro 3) and the toolbar icons are very pixelated. Below is a screenshot of XYplorer on my secondary monitor at 1920x1080. I have the toolbar icons set to large, which I prefer, but they are an eye sore to me. I was wondering if its possible to improve their resolution?

I'm aware of it. It will be a lot of work. I'm still thinking about the smartest way to do this.

will it be easier if you, say, expose the internal icons in a way that user can create skins that include different sizes? like, fp_16.png, fp_24.png, fp_32.png, fp_48.png, fp_64.png (:fp icon).

I want to keep full control over the icons.

All I can offer for now is to optionally not scale the toolbar icons at all. They would be 24x24 pixels then (small, but totally sharp) independent of the screen scaling. Would that help?

I guess a new option is better than no option, so those who appreciate that would use it. However, I think 24x24 would be too small to be usable. I hope you can one day find a proper solution for this.

OK, I will add bigger toolbar icons now. 48 or even 64 pixels. If you need 32 they will be shrunk. Looks much better than stretched.

Before I start: What would be the desired size for you (you high-resolution screen user)?

IMO, the icons look a bit crunchy in XL mode. It would be a nicer user experience if they were sharper.

Yep, I know. I'm working on vector icons (but this is a lot of work...).

Happened to test XYplorer again.
This question has been asked over years, this thread itself is almost 4 years. Still working on.
I'm also developer, honestly, impossible to imagine that anyone takes years to redraw some icons.
Any developer in our team doing this, he should have been fired at least 3years and 11 months ago.

Please don't take this as insulting, this is the truth in any professional environment.
