Visual filter box?

I love the Visual Filter (ctrl+J).

I'd love to replace the Toolbar button for this with a small text box. Any way of doing that?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the confirmation! Was afraid I'd missed it in the help file and my forum searches.

It's not a huge deal. It'd just be a nice visual reminder. At least the toolbar button indicates that a filter is active, even if it doesn't show the details.

Though note that live filtering the list and a quick search box are both on the roadmap, so chances are good they'll eventually come.

For a bolder visual reminder make sure you have Configuration | Find Files & Branch View | Visual Filters | Show filter information in list enabled:

Also, you can apply visual filters directly through the Address Bar by typing '|' followed by your filter pattern.
Such as:

Code: Select all

OK, so a cutesy text box isn't there yet, but it is on the roadmap and practically every benefit that text box would bring is already implemented in a different way.
That Visual Filter line was indeed showing up for me - I was just over looking it. Those are some good options to know about. I enabled seeing it on the tab-title too. And that's a good tip about the pipe-syntax in the path-bar.

I have no need of it at the moment, but does the Visual Filter support regular expressions like the search does?
