Another Newbie Question

It might be just me, but I've always had a bit of a problem when dragging/dropping -- sometimes the receiving area decides to scroll suddenly and like crazy....up and down I chase it. Seems to happen to me a lot and I'm not sure of the circumstances. I noticed it when I was moving things about My Docs open at left side of screen, stuff on right side of screen I wanted to move to left side. Question: Is there a feature that says: LOCK THIS DAMN SIDE DOWN FOR A MINUTE OR TWO WHILE I MOVE STUFF TO IT?
(Or at least SLOW it's out-of-control scrolling a bit?) I know it's just me.
Probably. Never been a patient Windows user. Bad habits picked up from the start, I guess. Is there even a need for a lock-down option like that?

Thanks (and I am becoming quite addicted to XYplorer...learning more everyday). I wish there were Wizards or Training Wheels so I could learn faster...lots of reading, reading...and puzzling things out. It's like investigating a treasure chest - but I know I know nothing at this point. :)

PS: I have learned to use Catalog a bit. NICE!! And to color many things. (Can titles in Catalog -- I mean the main headers -- be colored? I think they can, but can't find the way. I can color each link...it's just the titles I need to change from ugly black. I love color. ) :)

I haven't figured out how to keep tabs locked in at top. Haven't figured out FIND yet. Dread looking at that one. Over my head, I'm betting. Maybe a Wizard THERE would be COOL for us non-techies.

Have not figured out how to set an URL in Catalog and make it open web.

Any help is appreciated.

Oooh just thought of another thing...wish? Is there option to set all folder titles (within some specified range) in CAPS or lowercase, for instance?

I saw some mention of extracting ICONS. Does that have anything to do with the kind I like to stick on my folders...like an apple, a bird, a colored folder, etc. I saw the words "extract" icons and got all excited -- now I think it's not about those kinds of icons. ??

Since I'm not much a D&D'r and don't use locked tabs often, I'll try this part of your query:
1) I know that you can right-click on selected files, then pick "Rename Special", and look for the "aaa" or "AAA" options...is that what you wanted?

2) You can right-click to Properties (or Alt+Enter) on a Catalog category, and then use Item Color to set the Text color for those...

BTW, Have you started reading the Wiki fully yet? There's a LOT of info there that is presented in an "easier to read" format/style...You might find a lot of help there, and IF something on Wiki is not that easy to understand, you're welcome to try and make it better yourself.

I know the problem and worked against in various ways: scrolling will only happen if you hover the upper (top) half of the topmost item or the lower (bottom) half of the bottommost item. That's true for tree and list and catalog. That way you can drop on the top and bottom items wihou having them run away -- no other file manager can do this.

Additionally the List scrolls only if you are over the left half of it!

Just enter the URL as destination, that's it!
Right-click on any item within the same category (main header) you want to add this new one, or on the category itself, and use "Add New Item Here..."

To lock the current tab, you can use menu View/Tab/Lock Location (Ctrl+L) or right-click on the tab's header, then click on "Lock Location"

Regarding extracting icons... not sure but you might be refering to XY's ablity to "extract" icons embedded into EXE/DLL files.
This is done on Propertites tab in the Info Panel, but XY doesn't really "extract" icons though, as in it doesn't save them as *.ico, but dbl-clicking on it will copy it to the clipboard.
(Note that (unfortunately) it doesn't work on Preview tab, only Properties)

True, and that's pretty cool! :) I would even suggest to make Tree & Catalog behaves like that, so dragging from/to there would not scroll when we don't want to as well!

Thanks, Don and Jacky [and JC]. I am pondering these things. Trying to find time to try things.

No luck yet working the icon thing...and don't much understand Don on the scroll issue but I need to do some more reading and then it will sink in. I did get the category titles (and files below them) colored. Thanks. My hobby was art (pre-computer take-over) and, much to my husband's disdain, I like a hugely colorful screen. Anyway: unless I'm remember wrong, I think one of the things Don pitched about XYPlorer was no more boring screens. (Or maybe that was one of my icon programs. Whatever - my screen is NOT boring. hahaha)
Thanks again! :)

Just wondering...What portion did you not understand? (There were two parts to his answer)
The first one is the one that I've run into...when you're trying to drop on the very first (or last) entry, that's typically when a list starts scrolling undesirably...so XY handles that by splitting the first/last entries into two parts (top and bottom) vertically...and thus the part that triggers the scroll is only half of that entry (closest to ends), and the other half (closest to bulk of the list) does not...

I haven't seen that behavior so far, JC. Sounds good. Leave it to Don to find a way around that rolling. :) (My scrolling issue is when dragging from list at right, to Tree at left. I will go work with it somemore.) Thanks for helping me.

Hey, that's part of reason I just LOVE XY! In the first day of using it, I found a very helpful forum, and a developer who cares enough to work with users in a timely fashion (sometimes even TOO quickly! ) so while some product forums I've used maybe twice, this one is SO addictive, that...as you can see by my number of posts, that I'm (like others) now hooked on XY! Maybe TOO much so, but for a guy like me who's semi-retired, it provides a way to feel worthwhile, useful and productive.

So, I visit this forum probably more often than the chat room (a specialized one for my home town) that I run and moderate...it's one of my 3 most frequently used sites...from 9am to 4am typically..

Just reporting in:

I was blown away by XY this morning. A W E S O M E program.

This is like a MAGIC BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying to bribe a long time genious friend of mine to buy it...then we can play with it together and he will learn faster and teach me. Endless fun. :)

I just learned a tiny bit about FIND ...and saving results to .csv and etc etc etc. My jaw was sitting on my chest at that point. It then dawned on me how..having the found stuff sitting in List enables me to use my custom toolbar's Delete Button...after seeing in PREVIEW what some of the stuff is...OR, instead, perhaps using that amazing MOVE TO feature to take stuff over the TREE.... or maybe drop on CATALOG to open in some program like NoteTab...(one of my fav ever softwares).

I am JACKED!!!!!!!! I want all my friends to get this program!! Someone asked me what free version doesn't have? Is it only Catalog? Should genious friend try BETA version out? Should I?

OH BOY This is great. DON, u have my huge admiration. :)

Yes, there it is: the right ATTITUDE to XY! :) Spread it. Spread the newest version. The last free version is a lame joke compared to where we are now. And the count-down to the release of XY 6.0 is running...
