XYplorer Beta Club

Coming from PowerDesk and FileBoss, I often use two "panes" to copy or move files between. I can't seem to find a way to have what I need.

The first pane showing what XYPlorer calls the TREE and a files tab, and a second pane showing a Tree and a files tab. I often move and manage files and folders. If its not on my screen, as my short term memory is (I forget what I was going to say), I really need this. I find opening 2 instances of XYPlorer and then dragging them onto opposite sides of the screen more work.

There doesn't seem to be a way to see 2 TREES any other way (if there is, please tell me how), so I was wondering if there was a scripting way to do it?

Well, currently there’s no way to display two real trees in XYplorer.
On the other hand, there are several ways to work between various locations. Depending on one’s needs (but mostly habits), they might even prove more efficient!

• Notably, using one of the two panes as a custom tree, through:
   — Branch view in folders mode, which can display the expanded tree structure of a single or multiple locations
   — Paper folders (“virtual scrap folders”) which can regroup all the folders you want

• You could also use:
   — Catalog as a mini-tree (though not expandable) with your most needed locations
   — Favorite folders for single locations

• And (simultaneously)/Or tabsets:
   — If you frequently use the same locations, you can save all the tabs of a pane as a tabset to easily recall them later. e.g. to manage installed softs, use a tabset with the tabs "Program Files", "Program Files (x86)", "ProgramData", "%localappdata%",…
   — And if you switch very often between tasks or jobs, you can use Sessions that group dedicated tabsets ("Soft Management", "Coding", "Movies", "Photos",…). Productivity booster guaranteed! [end of shameless ad]

And there are probably other ways, scripted or not…
The hardest thing being to figure out exactly what we want to achieve, and not to try to replicate exactly what we’ve been used to. (Been there… )

My folders vary so predefined won't work. This is the only feature missing in XYPlorer. Really wish it could be added. None the less, I'm converting to it and buying a full license to help reward this well thought out software. Would really like to see this feature added though.

Oh, OK. Varying folders are a different matter altogether.
You’re not the first one to ask for dual trees, I guess it really depends on one’s needs and workflow…

In the meantime, —still not exactly what you asked for— but to “remember” what folders you need to work on, you could use colored labels (or tags) along the way, to “mark” what needs to be processed, then instantly recall them all in a pane when you need them.
(I use it so often that I’ve mapped Numpad 1 to 5 keyboard shortcuts to customized labels 1-5, and 0 to remove labels/tags…)
