1) If you want to teach people the '*', '#', and '+' shortcuts then setting the location (or using the new 'Search in...' items) should set the location to these characters.

2) There needs to be consistency between the location's browse button menu and the Find Now menu.
Commands for Current Path, All Tabs, Computer, List Items, and Selection should be on both menus.

3) It would be nice if these commands were easy to access from the Find Files tab instead of sending the user menu diving:
#615 Tools | List Management | Find Files: Name...
#616 Tools | List Management | Find Files: Location...
#617 Tools | List Management | Find Files: Excluded Items... (It is available but if the other two get put in a menu it should also be near them.)
#264 Edit | Search Templates... (Seriously are we done with its banishment yet?)

4) And really maybe it's time the Search Templates dialog just became a tab under Find Files?

How are the unrelated?

I'm not saying the commands as they exist in 15.70.0110 should be in both menus, but that those locations mentioned should have entries in both appropriate to the menu.

The browse context menu sets the location.
The find now context menu performs the search in those locations.

Do you really think someone wouldn't like to kick off a search of all tabs or computer without changing the location field? Or that they would want to populate location with all tabs but not the selected list items?

Ah, you mean this:

"Find Now" context menu
Search in A, B, C ...

"Location" context menu
Set to A, B, C ...

Yes, that would be more consistent/symmetric. But still, what would be won apart from consistency? Both menus would get larger and harder to handle. Plus more translation work. So, I think it's better as it is now, even if it's inconsistent.

The browse menu would grow by 2 items:
Set to Listed Items
Set to Selected Items
Making it 7 items + 3 (or 4) separators tall.

The Find Now menu would gain 3 items:
Search in Current Path
Search in All Tabs
Search Computer
Making it 6 items + 1 (or 2) separators tall.

Translators already have to handle 3 new items for this and the above would add 5 more, but they are all pretty similar so it doesn't seem so bad to me (he says not being a translator ).


This means the available actions are more consistent neither seems like too many to me, and I won't find it as irritating (which in my eyes is a HUGE advantage ).

Yes, but I find the current way totally non-irritating. Hm.
