Running a search for a pattern on a root drive is giving me no thumbnails at all. Just a few thumbnails are being displayed, actually. Bug? Feature? Tweak?
Please.

After experimenting with turning on-off thumbs creation, this instance of XY refuses to create thumbs for a given folder, *even if I rename it using Win Explorer*. Even after deleting "thumbnails" folder. Another instance of XY creates thumbs normally. How do I fix this?

Configuration | Thumbnails | Show cached thumbnails only?

It's all ok concerning config.

Another problem I found: toggling show thumbs on/of on a session (on-off-on-off-on-off may suffice) the thumbs will not be shown anymore on a last toggle, requiring XY restart.

To be clear, the latter 2 issues occur on regular list.

Another point: when opened a thumbnailed folder on opposite pane, the cached thumbs are created once again.
Despite I see it shouldn't interfere in any way, I verified 'keep pane data private' - and it was off!

Is there a setting for this, ie, cached thumbs should be valid for any pane?

None of this happens here.

Perhaps the number of files is the key factor?
Around 5000 images, 3 or 4 folders mainly.

Another issue:
Having a thumbnailed pane @128x128, 213 items, activating pane 2 renders thumbnails blanked.

BG info: another installation of XY, band-new (6 months old) machine, win 8.1, 8 GB ram, fresh session.

Don't know what to say. Whatever it is, it is not here.

Coincidence or not, the blank-thumbs problem happened after I changed the default image viewer via system.
GDI+ issue?
