Fastpictureviewer codecs installed but no PSD preview SOLVED

I have windows 7, 64 bit. Xyplorer v 15.40.01
I have just installed the trial version of the Fastpictureviewer codecs (v 3.8.0.96) , but I am not getting a preview of PSD images.
The PSD thumbnails are there, but the mousedown popup preview shows a box with 8BPS in it.
(I've done two restarts of the PC)
I also have Sage thumbs installed and I thought there might be a conflict so I unticked the PSD option in Sage thumbs, but that didn't help.

I have done a view /caches / Refresh thumbnails

Is there a cache of previews?

As far as I've been able to tell installing the Fastpictureviewer codecs should just work with no other configuration necessary.

Does anyone have any thoughts of what I should try next?

Is there a way of determining if the codecs are working / installed correctly. There is a FastPictureViewer codec pack configuration option in the control panel so it looks as though it installed OK.

Thanks

I have now uninstalled Sage thumbs - that didn't help

I uninstalled the Fastpictureviewer codec

I then confirmed that there were now no thumbnails for my psd files (as expected)

Reinstalled FastPictureViewer codec. The thumbnails for psd files are now back so I know that FastPictureViewer is working as far as generating the thumbnails is concerned. But the mousedown popup preview for psd files is still not working.

I'd really appreciate some ideas on what to try next

Thanks

OK solved it

A real trap!

I had no idea that the "previewed formats" list was different depending on the category that was chosen in the top pane of that screen.

I thought there was a master list of "previewed formats" and the category list at the top could be used to exclude certain types from the master list.

Now I see that there is a separate list of previewed formats for each category.

What had happened (and I assume quite some time ago as it wasn't during my current attempt to get the previews working), .psd (and .eps) had been added to the "text files" category as formats to be previewed as text files.

Even though .psd and .eps were also both in the "Image files" category the text preview category was taking precendence.

So as soon as I removed the .psd and .eps file types from the text files cateory the preview is now working for .psd files and .eps with fastpictureviewer codecs installed

Of course it does say at the top of the list of files : "File types within category" but did I read it - no!

A classic case of 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink' I guess
