Width of 'Name' column in 'LIST' view...

Hello!
I know I'm probably missing something OBVIOUS, but, for the life of me I cannot find any way to KEEP the 'Name' column wider. And, BTW, I almost always use the 'LIST' view in every folder. Yes, I can do the ctl+shift and keep hitting the '+' button, but it doesn't stay. I REALLY am loving this program, but in EVERY bloody folder (just about) the name is getting truncated no matter HOW short or long the name is. For example, in one folder where I have rather long movie names maybe with 20 or 30 characters, most of them show and the column is fairly wide. Yet, in another folder where the only two items are sub-folders called 'BDMV' & 'CERTIFICATE', the way they look in the folder is like this: 'BD...' & 'CER...' or something like that. It would REALLY be nice just to set ALL the folders so that the 'Name' column will automatically FIT whatever the widest 'Name' is in each column. That is at least ONE thing that Explorer does do, but I cannot figure out how to get this program to display it that way.
Otherwise, the program is frigg'n AWESOME! One thing that happened recently that was most impressive was that I was noticing that the program was taking REALLY long to open, and darned if a prompt didn't come up and say, 'The program seems to be taking a long time to open [17 seconds] check the Mini-Tree items, etc...' WOW, this guy has thought of EVERYTHING! Very nice!
Appreciate any suggestions though on how to keep those 'Name' columns wide enough so that I can bloody read them.

- your vivid description brings back VERY similar feelings when I started out with XY. I struggled with the exact same problems, and it drove me nuts. I was about to lose my mind fretting over the same issues again and again, why it did respect my settings some time, and other times it just would not.
