File selection checkbox missing on portable device (Android)

Noticed that folders on the PC have a checkbox for selecting files while a pane displaying a folder on the Android device does not have the checkbox. Is that normal, or have I overlooked a configuration setting? Tried changing the Sticky Checkbox setting, with no effect.

Open a folder on device, then enable Main Menu > Tools > Customize List > Checkbox Selection

There is also a toolbar button for this.
