virtual catalogs, or, more info in Paper files

tldr: wish paperfolders could also list subfolders and saved items properties. in fact dispense with the relation with paper:s, call it a new browsing mode.
Recently I was catalogging a large collection of DVDs and spare HDDs, and thought how cool it would be if XY could show me a "hologram" of them even when they weren't there. That way I could search all my storage to find where a particular doc was without having to plop/plug them into the system one by one.
I'd love it if paper files could store and display at least size, date, and some metadata along with saved files. (papers can already list unavailable files, why not their properties as well?)
I believe this feature, if implemented, can bring in a whole new "genre" of customers to XY; those with a huge set of storage media with no way to manage them like power-users aka XYplorers do.
