Where are my tags?

Dear all,

Since I have lots of tags, I wanted to have a tree structure for the tags. The only thing I found was to place tags in a category (click and tag: tags) and have lots of categories (with different names). It is not very professional, but this way I have at least a "tree" with two levels... So, I am not adding new tags by duplicating an existing tag ("duplicate item") in such a category and renaming it (and then moving it to a new category or leaving it in the existing category).

My problem is that the tags which I am adding in the way described above and which I have already applied to several documents, do not appear in the "official tag list" of xyplorer. As a consequence, I cannot look for them ("find by tags"). They just do not show up any where else than in the tag list for the particular item which I tagged.

Can anybody please tell me how I can fix that? If someone knows a better way to have a tree structure and/or how to add new tags which I can then also place in my tree structure, this would be very welcome.

Many thanks.

Fin

Code: Select all

::button tagsfind,2;
Enter the ^code^ in XY and press ENTER. A popup menu will open. Choose Update Tag list.
Then see if the taglist was updated.

edit: FIY, this option is also available in the tag-related toolbar buttons' contextmenus.

BTW, this will update the taglist such that it contains all tags (and only those) that are applied to at least one file/folder

Don, I remember many other users asking how to update their taglist, perhaps this could be automated?

I mean auto-update -- I don't like this kind of smartness. It can go wrong. I want control.
