Full screen preview: Separate IP icon to invoke?+Arrow use?

I've been doing some reviews of JPG's from camera...and I prefer/like the ability of Full Screen Preview for this task because I can browse thru them easily...however, when I find one that I want to delete, I have to revert back to normal mode...fine...

But even though it's not that long-winded way to re-invoke FSP (via orange drop-down or right-click context), it starts getting to be a nuisance after doing it quite a few times in a row...thus, I'd prefer some sort of a icon next to the orange one that would activate FSP...maybe something like IE uses for Full Screen on toolbar?

Also, what is the reasoning behind not having up/down arrows in FSP do same as Page Up/Down?

A KS would do, right? Shift+F11 would work here AFAI see. It opens HTML files in a new browser window, but I could make it open the FSP on image files.

I don't know. I'll add up/down to it...

Yes, a KS would help, especially for the keyboard folks! But for me, who's mostly a finger-on-touchpad user, that's why I suggested an icon, which would fit even with image info off (I believe)...as going to orange drop-down, tapping/clicking to get menu (or right-click on preview), locating correct entry by going up six lines, then tapping/clicking there is what was the long-winded part...so sliding mouse over and just hitting the "max/expand" icon would be faster/quicker/simpler..

Sharing a KS with the 'open in new browser window' could be confusing possibly, as this opens in XY itself...I don't see Cntl+F11 as being presently used in my KS tables...how about that instead?

I just saw that something is not alright here.

Code: Select all

F11: open focused HTML-file in browser window
Shift+F11: open focused HTML-file in new browser window
I'm sure this worked when I added it, but now (a) each of them seems to always open a new browser window, so there is no difference at all between F11 and Shift+F11, and (b) doing it on a TXT file will open you default editor, not browser. Arrgh.

So, I'm doing a quick shuffle now:

Code: Select all

    * New keyboard shortcuts:
F11: (free!) (we will find something good for this... ;))
Shift+F11: open FSP if image being previewed
open in new browser window if HTML-file is focused

 I still think that having a separate KS for FSP .vs. HTML use would be better...and relating both to F11 makes sense...

Because, as I've said...there is a major difference in how they work...one opens a non-XY task, and the other just affects XY task..

Also, even though it may not work as documented, having F11 open file in same window as prior should be different than Shift+F11 open file in new window...as sometimes one wants to keep reusing a window and at times, you want a new window...

Unless you have no control, and a new window is always opened? :?:
In which case, I'd retain F11 as HTML and drop Shift+F11 as duplicate...
And then use Cntl+F11 for the FSP function...

As I'd believe MANY people are more used to F11 than Shift+F11!

Yes, no control. But probably you are right, I should have given different keys... too late for this BETA...

You'll get this tomorrow:

Code: Select all

F11: (free!) (we will find something good for this... ;))
Ctrl+F11: open FSP if image being previewed
Shift+F11: open in new browser window if HTML-file is focused

I'd be a bit careful about yanking the plain F11 usage! :P
This could have some undesired affects...yes, having a plain key is nice, but from a re-training point of view, plus making it an extra keystroke for those used to prior function, it could become a PITA!

So... please reconsider this swap-out, ok? And drop the redundant Shift one instead...that's my educated opinion..."been there, done that" with mucking around with users KS!

I will be interesting to see HOW many...

Anyway, I just uploaded a new v5.50.0015 (yes, I patched the same version, hehe), so download again if you have the old one from 15 minutes ago.

Just a point. F11 is a common key for full screen (hiding title bars, buttons etc...) in many applications so it might be preferable to use that rather than Ctrl+F11 for full screen preview. It's also common for it to be a full screen / normal toggle.

And, how about PgUp/PgDn incrementing in larger steps and Up/Dn in single steps. One graphics viewer I use has PgUp/PgDn step through the files in increments of five which I find useful for large numbers of files that are in groups of similar images.

Gandolf has a point.

Can F11 not just be a "Smart-FSP"?

Ah yes, maybe you mean this: F11 does an implicit Ctrl+Q! So you go directly to a fullscreen image preview of the current file even if the preview panel is currently not active. :)
Only: what if the current file is no image?

It does nothing? Or it opens in it's app? I prefer the former...

I hadn't thought of that idea, might be useful.

1. Do nothing - not a good idea.
2. Display an error box that the keystroke only works for image files.
3. Display an error box and give the option to open the file in the associated application.

Another idea, F11 opens full screen preview only if thumbnail view is selected.

I see our posts overlapped!
