Find file window.

On my desktops I use Win XP., but unfortunately I have a labtop with Win 7. Naturally, I have XYplorer installed on the labtop to make this crippled operating system more bearable.
But I still have to fight with the crippled " choose file" window. You know, the small explorer window coming up when I try to open a file within a program, and must tell the program which file I want to open.
+/- in the tree has also here been replaced with the silly triangles, the dotted lines are gone, and the tree opens by default on all the ridiculous "favorites like" folders. Further on the whole thing is acting as if it had hiccups.
I have tried to make XYplorer take over the handling of these "choose file" windows, but without success.
Is XYplorer able to do this? If yes, please tell me how

I understand your plight, but sorry to say XY cannot replace the systemwide "find file" dialog.

I feared the answer would be so
Is there any other way of correcting this M$ foolishness?

Maybe:

An easy way to change to favorite / last used folders quickly (mouse / keyboard driven)...

Seems to immediately render
FileBox eXtender as well as
Listary useless* for me.
Thanks for this great tip!
Cheers, Filehero
*: Yeah, I know it's a shame but I don't need an ultrafast blasting search utilities beyond jack-of-all-trades XY.

To also cover your Save As ... dialogs (including Office 2007 where most others fail), try DirectFolders

Thank you for the suggestions, but that is not what I am looking for.
I just want to have the silly Win 7 dialogs replaced with usable dialogs, meaning a tree view pane with +/- and dotted lines to subfolders. All the "my favorites", "my music" and other distracting folders should be removed, or user removable. Further on the hiccups behaviour of the useless M$ dialogs is totally unacceptable.
Any suggestions, please

Thank you for the link, highend. But it doesn't really do the job. Programming? Well, I have actually paid M$ to do this for me. But they don't care about desktop users anymore. The money is in the chat marked. A blonde using 90% of her life chatting on facebook, is the best client. And of course...she has no interest in, or knowledge about file management.
This crabby dialog boxes together with all the other annoyances in Win 7 should really make me throw it in the bin, and install XP. The only thing that has stopped me so far, is the fact that I actually paid money for this miserable operating system.
Well, XYplorer is a brilliant file manager. Plenty of good, well working functions and refinements. Really superb for managing large amounts of data, and highly customizable. A 100% contrast to the M$ explorer crab....
