Warn on opening multiple files at once

So today I accidentally pressed Enter with over 700 files selected... killing the resulting hundreds of windows, even via command line, took a few minutes as new windows kept popping up. When this happens in Windows Explorer, you get a warning asking you if you're sure you want to open that many items at once. I think this would be a good feature to have in XYPlorer.

I'd like to see this too. +1

Yeah, +1 from me too.
Maybe set a reasonable value by default and let the power users tweak it in the .ini (if they really need to)

Oh, yes, please! +1 from me!
(now if I could just get Thunderbird to do the same when I highlight multiple messages for deletion -- sometimes it thinks I want to open them all...)

There used to be a safety belt for this...

v6.20.0008 - 2007-08-26 10:46
* When trying open multiple items at once you now get a warning
question if they are too many, for example:
-----------------------------------
Continue to open 235 items at once?
-----------------------------------
Too many is anything > 9.
Far as I can tell it broke somewhere between v8.20.0027 and v8.30.0000, and went unnoticed until now.
Nothing in the change log from that time stands out as a likely culprit.

= NEW OFFICIAL RELEASE. Main changes since last release:
+++ Search Results Caching. The results of time-consuming searches can
now be stored and retrieved tabwise and across sessions.
+++ Dual Pane. Now you can easily move or copy tabs between the panes.
+++ Spot & Jump. Quickly jump to any item in a large list, just as you
know it from your web browser's Find Bar.
+++ EXIF Stamping. The new command "Set Modified Date to EXIF Date"
sets the Modified date of each selected image file to the file's
EXIF date (Exchangeable Image File Format).
+++ Configuration. In the new section "Features" you can control some
of the advanced functionality of XYplorer and disable features
which you do not use or wish to see.
+++ Home Edition. The new "Lifetime License Home" buys you everything
the current Pro Edition has -- apart from a handful of advanced
features -- at an incredibly low introductory price.

v8.20.0031 - 2009-08-31 10:11
! Thumbnails: Drawing glitch (misalignment, or partly black areas on
thumbnails) when changing between thumbnails sizes, e.g. from
Thumbnails #1 to #3, or when turning the caching on/off. Fixed.
v8.20.0030 - 2009-08-30 19:35
* Updated the help file.
v8.20.0029 - 2009-08-29 10:57
! Dual Pane: When moving/copying a tab to the other pane...
- the list settings of the selected tab on the inactive pane were
not saved before the drop of the new tab, so unless its settings
were saved previously (by switching tabs for instance) they were
lost. Fixed.
- the inactive pane was not always shaded as expected. Fixed.
* Dual Pane | Move/Copy Tab to Other Pane: Now the position of the
new tab is the same you'd created it within the same pane, i.e.
either right of the current tab, or at the right end of the tab
bar -- depending on the setting of "Open new tab next to current"
in Configuration | Tabs.
* Dual Pane: Now, also when *copying* a tab to the other pane the
target pane is activated. Before this was confined to moving a tab.
! Spot'n'Jump: Drawing glitches fixed.

+1 from me.
Also, the threshold should be customizable, and possibly even the extension (opening 30 small pdf files isn't as bad as opening 30 long HD videos).

Hmmm, indeed a dark mystery why/when this has gone. I usually document everything.

Well, I will bring it back now.

Hi all!
I often open a large number of files. How to remove this warning?

Hi Slavaon, the beta notes for version v15.10.0006 explain how to tweak the number of files allowed to opened at once without receiving the error message.
+ When trying open multiple items at once you now get a warning question if
they are too many, for example:
-----------------------------------
Continue to open 235 items at once?
-----------------------------------
Notes:
- Too many by default is anything > 9. You can tweak this value here:
OpenManyMaxCount=20
Set the tweak to -1 to skip any warning (99999 might do as well).
- The warning is not popped when you open items via the shell context menu.
- FYI, this had been added in v6.20.0008 - 2007-08-26 10:46 but at some
point disappeared mysteriously from the code. Now it's back.
