Hotlist / Breadcrumb / Drive dropdown position

It would be awfully nice if the hotlist dropdown (and possibly others) could position its upper left corner to the current location of the mouse (maybe as an configurable option or a different hotkey?). I've bound ^H to a button on my mouse. This would be very useful if the resulting dropdown menu wasn't so far away.
Also, add me to the list of people requesting flexible key bindings. I've found a handful of operations that I cannot bind to my mouse (no hotkey in the first place).

Hi and welcome to XY!
Regarding key bindings, here's what our favorite author had to say in another thread:

So Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts are coming!
And I personally use Hotlist/Breadcrumb from toolbar/menu cause I
hate that unavoidable "ding" that occurs using some shortcuts, so my cursor is already positioned to make quick use of dropdown...If positioning it to current pos was possible, yes, I'd vote for it but likely still not use it much.

Don't worry CKS are on the list, and it's been said they will come to XY in 2007!
I might agree with you about the menu positions (even though I use those only through Toolbar so it don't really affect me*), I think it may have been done that way to have menus always at the same position, having the keyboard-only users in mind...
Weird though that the menu Go/Breadcrumb does popup the menu on mouse position then. But if you can assign to your mouse "Alt+G, B" then you'll get your Breadcrumb menu to popup at your mouse position. Hotlist is still bound to its "usual" position though.
* : but if your layout actually have the Toolbar on the right, then it can get a bit confusing, to get the Hotlist on the right when clicked on Toolbar icon, but on the left using menu or shortcuts!
Edit: damn, was previewing andI see jc just answered already. Well then, jc, let me just say: if you're referring to the "ding" on Ctrl+Backspace maybe you can use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or AltGr+Backspace instead, they all do the same but those 2 don't "ding"

Guess jacky and I are competing for who can reply first!
Anyway, I'm getting the "ding" on Cntl+H for Hotlist also...

Oh yeah, Ctrl+H does it too! Didn't noticed that...

And so does Ctrl+Shift+T !
I knew Alt+ shortcuts could ding cause of their potential menu accelerators status, didn't realized Ctrl+ ones would ding too with letters (as opposed to Backspace)

Maybe it's linked to the fact those 2 pops up a menu, while others Ctrl+ shortcuts don't, that's to me the only thing they got in common here.....

Ok I want to echo this now, cause I would really like it if Ctrl+H (or whatever KS assigned to Hotlist) would pop up the menu on the mouse poisition, like all others do (Breadcrumb, Drives, History, etc), and not aligned on the top-left corner.
Because I'd like to use it with my mouse too, but if the menu does show where I click but on the corner it's a but annoying, so for now I can't use it (well, it's on my TB but still)

Done.

I like it better, too.

Great, very cool, that's one more button on my TB!
Thanks!

I'll reactivate this thread as it relates somewhat...
A very small wish related to Hotlist toolbar icon: That a second single click on exact same spot on icon would exit as ESC does...at present, I can exit an unintended Hotlist by clicking on a slightly different spot that is outside the pop-up, but on the standard menu items (File/Edit/View/etc), I can just re-click and the pop-up goes away...that's what I would like with Hotlist, as I'm used to the other style..

I know what you mean, but it's not possible because the "exact same spot" is now covered by the menu. A solution is to popup the menu at a different place. I'll change it to pop up the way the breadcrumb menu does: below the button.

That'd work just fine! As it is now, it also partially covers the TB icons to the right...hope this change won't affect placement when invoked via KS, as having it at current mouse spot was desire of others, I recall..
There are times when I've wanted breadcrumb but my position was a bit off

, and I've gotten Hotlist instead as they're adjacent here.

As you see I did it for all buttons that pop a menu, and I think it's
very nice usability improvement! So thanks for mentioning it!

No, THANK you! Sometimes it's the tiniest little things that can make usage easier or a bit of a pain!
