Tags & Update

- Tag: Film_Unseen
- Deleted through "edit tag editor" and/or "catalog tags cloud"
- triggered "update tag list" and/or "update category"
- Tag/Tags come back

- restarted XYp, removed tag/tags from all referenced files
- v14.40

Cannot reproduce. Works fine here. :? Maybe there are other files with that same tag.

Could it be whether XYp is being run as admin vs not? Don't know, only asking?
I have to try and remember at times which way I'm running to know whether what I'm trying to do is going to work as I want.

Sticking a startup.ini in <xypath> usually takes care of configfusion with admin mode.
That way XY always uses the same appdata location no matter whether it's running as the almighty admin or poor restricted account.
Of course that has nothing to do with admin activity restrictions.

Back to topic, @konfuzius: did you mean that Click-n-Search/Click-n-Tag categories don't automatically remove missing tags from category when "Update Category" is clicked? Also, did you save settings before restarting?

I'm running into the same problem. When I first added the "Click and Tag: Tags" I noticed about 10 tags I didn't remember creating. I did a search for those, found them and removed them, did a right-click "Update Category" and they were removed.

But then when I started paring down tags that I wasn't using much, I ran across two tags (that I've removed from files AND the tag list) but when I perform another "Update Category", they reappear. I am not running XYPlorer as an Admin. I also saved my settings, restarted, and the problem still appears.

Okay, I figured out the issue. tags.dat in the XYPlorer %APPDATA% folder had references to a directory and a file both of which no longer existed. For one I updated the file name to the new file name (it must've been changed outside of XYPlorer), and the other line I just deleted out of the tags.dat file. When I restarted XYPlorer and performed another "Update Category", the tags were removed.

So I guess the issue comes into play where filenames change or directories get moved and XYPlorer still has them tracked in the tags datastore, and that is why they don't show up in the "Find" operation. But they can't be removed from the auto-update of the "Click and Tag" area because they still exist in the data-store. I guess it begs the question, if one of these files or directories can't be found, could XYPlorer prompt for the new location in some way?

Also, FWIW, I noticed a couple of duplicate entries in tags.dat as well.

Okay, that explains it. Orphaned entries in tag.dat will still appear in the updated tags list. I'm not sure if that's good or not. In any case, preventing this would make the update function much slower...

The premise, WordBaron narrated, is not true in my case. Like I already said, all tags're deleted from all referenced files, neither their filenames nor directories get renamed or moved.

@SammaySarkar I never mentioned automatisation. I said, I did all processes manually. Tags're gone if I remove them, but they reappear after "update category" - this is the issue of this thread. Save settings was not needed, because of autosave option (startup & exit "backup settings on save").

@admin that one tag was given only 4 files, that's why I know tag was removed from ALL files

But removed tags stay there even if I do all processes singular:

- remove from "edit tag list", "save settings", restart, "update tag list" -> reappear
- "remove from catalog", "save settings", restart, "update category" -> reappear

P.S. @admin please take a look at another thread of mine (click & search + SORT), I would appreciate that :)

UPDATE
I figured it out - I repeat myself - tag removement from both lists (edit tag list and catalog tag list) brought no success
Only after give that 4 files a tag again and delete 'em from "configuration - information - tags - options - edit tagged items" list let tag disappear.

Good you solved it, though I cannot explain what was causing it.
