drag & drop flaws

hi. i've noticed some flaws in xyplorer with the drag & drop features.
1. on all my computers, if i drag a picture onto xyplorer, it creates the file but it has 0 bytes and no picture. in explorer, the picture
would have been copied.
2. on my other computers, with an earlier version of xyplorer, i could drag a link onto xyplorer and automatically rename it. now i can't
drag & drop a link. i can't drag and drop anything from outside xyplorer.
i have the drag & drop feature enabled, so i don't know where the problem may lie. thanks for any help

"Drag a picture" you mean like from IE? Just tried that, works fine here. File is being copied as expected.
Regarding dragging link, I never did that before so I don't know how it worked, but things may have changed when dropping text has been added ; in fact::
Code: Select all
v5.20.0022 - 08.10.06 11:40
- Removed feature (v5.00.0020 - 10.06.06 10:06): "Now you can create
internet shortcuts by dropping URLs onto the file list."
Reason: potential conflicts/confusion with the above Drop-Text-To-
File feature.

thanks for the reply, jacky.

-- yup, that's what i mean. i have used xy on four different computers with four very different hardware profiles and none of them will let me do that. i can do it from IE or FireFox to windows explorer, however.

-- i'm not actually dragging text to xy, but a link (as far as i know, anyway). i've done it for years with windows explorer. i just drag links to a special folder instead of saving them in 'my favorites'. and it works on my other computers with xy. even better than WE. but on my new computer, i think i downloaded a newer version of xy and wonder if that's the source of the problem.

I've never had a reason to try drag-n-drop a JPG from IE into XY, but did now just to see what happened...and it worked just fine...so what exactly were the conditions when the issue occured?

"standard conditions" is about all i can say. it's interesting that you and jacky have had no problems dragging and dropping pics. i'd say my problem is a fluke, but it's happened on all four of my computers. i don't know what i could be doing different from y'all.
however, have you double-checked to ensure the file was copied? on my computers, it [/i]looks
as if the file has copied, but upon closer inspection the file has no size and if you double click it won't open.
thanks

Having just had a fun time getting another bug squashed, as Don didn't experience the same things I did, I know there are few "standard conditions"! Such as: OS? I'm on W2K...and dragging from IE, right? Which IE? I'm on IE6...etc...
My test conditions: I brought up a web page using IE that had a couple of pix, shown via JPG's, so dragged one to XY and plopped it into a folder there...and it showed up with correct size and can be previewed correctly within Info Panel...

Ah yes. That had been removed sometime ago, but due to increased enlightment on my side I've been able to add it again just now!

I get zero bytes image files as well when I drag and drop them from fx2 but not ie7... (just tried GIF, PNG and JPG, same on all)
Also, while I used to be able to drop URLs from fx2 in 5.40.0041, I can't now. Now I get:
Failed to get dropped contents of message 'somename.url'.

Hm, fx1 and ie6 work alright. Can you have fx1 and fx2 together in one system?
Just fixed the firefox *.url issue.

You just can't run it at the same time as another fx being open.

the computer i'm on right now has xp home edition, sp2; IE 6.0.29; FX (firefox?) 1.0.2; xy 5.4. my computers at home have either xp home or professional, sp1, IE 6.?, FX 2.?, and an earlier version of xy.

i uninstalled xy 5.4 and installed xy 5.10.0020 and that fixed the problem with dragging and dropping links. however, i still have the problem dragging and dropping image files.

I beleive if you get the latest beta (5.40.0043) the drag&drop of links now works again! (on IE only for now, but should be fixed for FF aswell on the next beta)
Regarding images, it works fine for me on XP Pro SP2 US with IE 6.0.2900.2180 and FireFox 2.0, so I don't know what to say here....

jacky,
i tried the latest beta (5.40.0043). i had the same results as you with regard to links, but still no luck dragging images from firefox to xy. i guess i'll keep my fingers crossed and keep trying new betas.
