Some improvement hints

Post by ddaitarn304 »

Hello, below some hints I think could be useful:

1) Accessing to network folders:
a) when accessing a network folder, xyplorer is locked until the folder is available. My hint is to do in background, and continue to work on other tabs
b) Close the program, with open tabs on network folder. When reopen, xyplorer tries to access the network folder, so spends some times before program appears

2) Delete files:
Should be nice to have a "custom delete", with options to skip, pause, ecc, and capable to handle big file list

3) Quick search:
Option to disable "auto refresh" search, if you do a big search, it's no nice to refresh the search every time you come back on search tab

Hi, welcome to the forum!
Now, come to the issues:
a) when accessing a network folder, xyplorer is locked until the folder is available. My hint is to do in background, and continue to work on other tabs
that's one of the very few weaknesses of XYplorer. XY doesn't support multi-threading yet.
b) Close the program, with open tabs on network folder. When reopen, xyplorer tries to access the network folder, so spends some times before program appears
Configuration(F9) -> Startup & Exit -> check "No Network browsing on startup"
Option to disable "auto refresh" search, if you do a big search, it's no nice to refresh the search every time you come back on search tab
Config -> Find Files & Branch View -> check "cache search results"
Should be nice to have a "custom delete", with options to skip, pause, etc, and capable to handle big file list
A script can be the answer, a script that asks for confirmation before deleting each selected file. And what do you mean by being "capable to handle big file list"?

Thanks for reply.

Option is already checked, but if you close xyplorer with the selected tab open on a network folder, then when you need to wait when restart the program

I try to explain better: as you have "custom copy" , so would be nice to have "custom delete". Now, when you delete files or folder, simply rely on windows file manager. The problems start when you need to delete a big amount of files (for examples a folder (or many folders ) with >200.000 files, or even more than 1.000.000 files). Before starting, usually takes a lot of time to create the list of files (and I think using a lot of memory), next the process takes a lot of time, sometimes you need to pause deletion, and continue with other. Even worse, deleting doesn't go in background, so you are locked until finished.

kindly consider an option or a tweak for a custom delete folder as an alternative to recycle bin, this is for a move command but using the "delete" keyboard key similar to the custom copy so it feels integrated. by using a folder one can group the deleted files into folders with date like an xyplorer backup. and just nuke it if you dont need it anymore. this is already possible but you cant use the "delete" keyboard key, also i just don't like the recycle bin.
