An easier way to copy a selected/focused filename to Find?

Had a file on my thumb drive...thus on E:\ so wanted to see if same file was anywhere on C:\ drive...it was a rather long filename, so ended up using F2 to invoke rename, then did copy & paste into Find Name...which got me to thinking...now that we have a way to make current extension into a filter, could there be an slightly easier way to find other copies of a given filename?

You have copy commands in the context menu of the selected item(s).

Ctrl+P Copy File Path/Name: copy filename(s) with path to clipboard (of all selected items in ListView)

Ctrl+Shift+P Copy File Path: copy path(s) to clipboard (of all selected items in ListView)

Hmmm, right now I spontaneously wonder whether Ctrl+Shift+P would not be better used for Copy Item Name(s) :?: :!: Isn't that function more commonly needed? (as by you in your wish  )

I have the same feeling. I often have to do F2 and Ctrl+C to copy file names. So yes, its not that very convenient right now.

My order of most used would be:

Item Name(s) Ctrl+P
Item Path/Name Ctrl+Shift+P
Item Path Ctrl+Alt+P (at present used for "Open Command Prompt Here" - is it required often?)

Yes.
Yes.

No.

This will REALLY annoy anyone who uses this regularly, and those who do will almost certainly use that shortcut as they're more likely to be keyboarders. Any reason Shift+Alt+P can't be used for the paths?

No reason not to use Shift+Alt+P as far as I know. However "Command Prompt Here" doesn't work in the list view the way I would expect, so I never use it. I use the Command Prompt in the Context menu.

"Command Prompt" in the context menu opens the command window at the folder highlighted in the list (if focus is in the list) or the folder highlighted in the tree (if focus is in the tree). "Command Prompt Here" opens the command window at the folder highlighted in the tree, even if a folder is highlighted in the list. I don't know if Donald regards this as a bug or a feature!

I'd call it a bug. IMO it should open the selected (not the focused) directory in the focused panel. If you are focused on the list view and nothing is selected then it makes sense, to me, for it to open in the directory you are currently viewing.

hmm.. not sure what you're talking about here. There is only ONE command in XY, and that is "Open Command Prompt Here (Ctrl+Alt+P)"
And AFAIK it has always opened a command prompt on the Tree's selected folder, no matter how it's invoked:
- Tree's ctxt menu
- Ctrl+At+P
- TB button

That's all the way it can be invoke, and all works the same: open CP in the Tree's selected folder. And I beleive that's how it should work, that's what makes sense to me at least.
Couldn't really work on Selected item (can have more than one), and I would really hate to see it wok on Focused item (imagine, you're on a folder & invoke this, you gotta make sure first the focused row isn't on a folder, or that the focus ain't on the List !!)

I'm guessing you might have another command ("Open Command Prompt") maybe on folder's ctxt menu on List. If so, this one is NOT coming from XY. ;)

I'd vote for:
Ctrl+P = Item Path/Name(s) (as it is now)
Ctrl+Shift+P = Item Name(s)
Ctrl+Alt+P = Command Prompt Here (as it is now)
and maybe add:
Shift+Alt+P = Item Path(s)

Shift+Alt+* unfortunately is not possible because of the main menu (try e.g. Shift+Alt+F...).

What about the following:
Ctrl+Shift+P = Item Path/Name(s)
Ctrl+Shift+N = Item Name(s)

oh right.. well. Does the Item Path(s) really need a shortcut, I mean do people use it often, as it's pretty much onlu usefull from search results anyways...?

BTW not sure why but I just noticed that Ctrl+Alt+P does turn the focused item selected (or if any selection switch its state, adding or removing it). Looks like a bug...

@RalphM: no can do:
Ctrl+Shift+N = Create Text File ; and FYI also
Ctrl+Alt+N = Create New Path

Same here. I think I originally sticked to the two "path" functions because of the letter "P" in the shortcut. :) But, indeed, copy path(s) is very rarely useful so it does not need a shortcut.

(1) I would agree with
Ctrl+P = Item Path/Name(s) (as it is now)
Ctrl+Shift+P = Item Name(s)
because (a) it continues a long XY tradition with Ctrl+P, and (b) I personally think Item Path/Name(s) is the most important function of the three, so it should get the shortest "short"(!)-cut.

(2) But I also like
Ctrl+P = Item Name(s)
Ctrl+Shift+P = Item Path/Name(s) (as it is now)
because of the symmetry small action=small shortcut, larger action = larger shortcut. Probably easier to learn for newbies...

I hear your votes, folks... (1) or (2)?

Yes, I know... these kind of glitches will disappear with CKS... which will come, uhm uhm, pretty soon...

I like #2 (as you said easier for newbies) but my vote for #1 because I use ctrl+P a looooot.

btw, is Shift+P possible??
