Is there a "Go To Shortcut Target" command?

Hi everybody!

Is there a way to go to the destination of a file shortcut (a *.lnk file with a file, not a folder, as destination) to move focus to its destination file? In Altap Salamander, you can press Ctrl+T to do that, and I have been using that extensively when I used that program. It is called "Go To Shortcut Target" there.

But I am trying to switch to XYplorer now and I really need that functionality. I have been looking around in the interface and on the internet, but I didn't find it.

To be very clear, if I have a shortcut called ConfigFile.lnk pointing to the file C:\Users\Jesper\AppData\Roaming\XYplorerFree\XYplorer.ini, I want to be able to put the focus on the file ConfigFile.lnk, press a key (or select a menu command) and then XYplorer should go to folder C:\Users\Jesper\AppData\Roaming\XYplorerFree and put focus on the XYplorer.ini file. It should not be opened, only focused.

In effect, it should work as if you press Ctrl+G, type the destination of the shortcut file, and press Enter.

Is the feature there, and in that case, where can I find it?

Hmm, I have a context menu item at the very top, and this isn't available in WE context menu. Do you have it? (is it XY feature or comes from OS?)

There is a command to do this it is:
#1046 Miscellaneous | Go To | Go to Shortcut Target

A keyboard shortcut can be assigned to it by going to Tools > Customize Keyboard Shortcuts or it can be used in a script via #1046;. However, these are not available in the free version.

You can discover other commands via the Customize Keyboard Shortcuts dialog or via Help > List All Commands.

That said Don should probably add the Shortcut Target commands to the To Clipboard and Go menus, so that they can be easily accessed via keyboard in XY-Free.

Thank you, grindax, for your suggestion. But my shortcuts are all over my folders, and I have literally thousands of them. I use them extensively to organize and make relations between folders and files on my computer – kind of like interneurons or axons in a brain. So I really need that "follow shortcut" feature, as following a shortcut to its destination file (or folder too, actually, if it is a folder shortcut) is a deeply integrated part of my workflow when working with files and folders.

I can easily follow a shortcut to a folder, of course, just by pressing Enter, but I really need a simple command that goes to the destination of a shortcut in both the file case and the folder case (like Ctrl+T in Altap Salamander). It is really very useful to be able to do that. :-)

I Altap Salamander, if the destination has changed slightly and doesn't exist with the exact same file name any more, Salamander even uses heuristics to try to find the right destination (probably using the Windows function for that), and it works very, very well for my use. So I really miss that functionality and wish that XYplorer had it!

Oh, now I found it! :D

Right click the shortcut file and select Shortcut Target → Go to Shortcut Target!

I hadn't thought of right clicking, as I thought that would only bring up the normal Windows context menu of the file...

Yes, I agree. Also because I was, as a new, exploring user, looking in the Go menu, as I would expect such functionality to be there. When it wasn't, I thought it did not exist (although I did had a glimpse of hope, since I asked this question :-)).

Yes, I have that too and that was where I found it (while you were all trying to point me to that!).
