Backing Up XYplorer

I've been trying to figure out how to back up XYplorer (version 14.10). To my surprise, I didn't find the discussion in the User's Manual all that helpful, so I came to the forum, did a search, and found a relatively recent message that talked about using File-->Settings Special-->Backup Application Data Folder. So I tried that. It backed up seven files: action.dat, fvs.dat, ks.dat, lastini.dat, tag.dat, udc.dat, and XYplorer.ini. I wasn't sure what most of them were, but I was surprised not to see anything clearly referring to the Catalog. So I then went to XYplorer's AppData folder and among the items there were two of interest: one was a folder called Catalogs that had a file called catalog.dat (it hadn't been included among the files that were backed up). The other was a folder called AutoBackup that had three files: catalog.dat, tag.dat, and XYplorer.ini, all with dates a day earlier than those that had been backed up (or, in the case of catalog.dat, a day earlier than the file in the Catalogs folder).

What is the AutoBackup folder (I could find nothing about it in the User's Manual)? Why aren't its files the most current? And why are there only three, rather than seven? Why is catalog.dat included there but not among the seven that were backed up when I clicked on Backup Application Data Folder? I want to be sure I back up all the necessary files, but only those.

Thanks in advance for your help.

AutoBackup corresponds to Tools>Config->Startup&Exit->Backup settings on save. if you turn this off, then the most important settings (so there's ~three files) won't be backed up there when saving.

Hmm, when I run File-->Settings Special-->Backup Application Data Folder it copies the entire Data-Folder out to the location I specified. Including all subfolders like Catalogs, Columns, FindTemplates, Panes, Scripts etc.

Are you sure it didn't take along these subfolders? If you were looking at it with XY, maybe you had Folders out of sight (Ctrl+Shift+O is the default hotkey for that, I think)

That's the way for XY data backup wich is officially described in the XY manual (3rd hit when looking up 'backup' in the manuals' index).

And over here it does it exactly what it is supposed to do: copy the entiry content of XY's data folder (<xydata>) to the folder beeing asked for upon invoking the backup command.

@juanita: what folder contents do you see if you enter <xydata> into the address bar and hit enter? Is it the very same seven files you initially described or is it a different set?

Cheers,
Filehero

Thanks, Filehero, Stef123, and SammaySarkar, for your replies. I do have Backup Settings on Save checked in Config, so perhaps I don't need to do anything else? But I have no idea where it backs up to. Also, I'd like to have a copy of the data saved on a flash drive, just in case, so I guess I do have to do what I did.

When I put <xydata> into the address bar and hit enter, it goes to AppData/Roaming/XYplorer. And there I see 8 folders and seven files (the 7 I mentioned in my original message). However, yesterday when I went into File/Settings Special and clicked on Backup Application Data Folder, I was asked where I wanted the backup to go. I told it to go to my flash drive. What was saved to my flash drive -- OOPS, never mind. I now see that all the folders are there, too. I have a number of folders in the section of the flash drive where I put the backup, and I stupidly didn't see the XYplorer folders until now.

Time for me to say thanks once again and then crawl back under my rock.

I think we all have done this at least once here so don't hide yet -- we need your input!
