Amazon Autorip MP3 tracks

Can't really believe that i should be the only one. :veryconfused:
Anybody here who bought MP3s or "Autorip" from Amazon recently and can confirm XY refusing to play the tracks,
showing cover instead on IP - while WMP, VLC, Winamp, AIMP, foobar just go in medias res.
Background: part of the deal with record labels was to attach a non-ambiguous ID to tracks,
that i found residing in the commentary field - so this is nothing special
(checked it: wrote random IDs to commentary fields of ripped tracks).

But file header looks like this

Code: Select all

ID3·····xxPRIV·· ···www.amazon.com·········································································································
·····································································································································································

where the xx is an apparently encrypted part individual to the track

You're not the only one. http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11709 an explanation is given over on that topic by Don.

Curiously I've not yet been able to repro this, even though almost all my tracks have album arts attached

Thanks, Sammay! And sorry, searched for "amazon" and had no hits.
Because i have - as you said - hundreds of albums containing album art, older amazon buys too, which XY plays uncomplainingly - so i thought, that there must be something special with the newer ones, due to lobby pressure. And i still think it`s the overlong 00 (HEX) part (i shortened for display convenience). IP always shows "MPEG-header position found" on regular older files - and i can see for a flash "Cannot decode" before it shows the cover. That fits with Don's clarification.

Address of header data now generally seems to be
00002020: 00 00 00 54 49 54 32 00 00 00 25 00 00 01 FF FE ; ···TIT2···%···ÿþ
(Checked it only on a few but diverse files)

Has anyone of the scripters any idea, how we can tell the shell to WAIT / hold it's breath, before it makes it's decision?

I just found a fix.*
Install a codec pack, I've got K-lite Codec Pack here. (although recent versions offer a spamware at the ending stage of install; earlier version in my archives, v 10.05, does not have that )

* Along with some other essential apps, I always install media codecs in new OSes. However, I very recently installed Win8 but codecs hadn't been installed yet. After reading this posttopic, I tried a random track with album art, and you can guess what happened (hint: no play). So I installed the codecs and voila, the preview returned to normalcy as I always had it before!
