7 features - are they present and i could not locate them

(1) To peep inside a .zip file , we need to press F11 to open a new window,
Can 'the inside-contents of .zip file' not be seen in the Info panel itself (in 'preview' or 'raw view' tab) without opening a new pane, just for doing this (as done in xplorer 2)
(2) Is there a way to view the contents of a folder also in a 'preview-like' window (like viewing the contents of a .zip file)
(3) Bread-crumb bar has 'little triangles' on each level of hierarchy, but on clicking on the triangle - in the drop-down below it shows the contents OF ONLY ONE LEVEL and does not allow us to parse through the DEPTH of CURRENT 'IN-QUESTION' DIRECTORY STRUCTURE (for that folder) -> (While in a simple program like QtTabBar - it is possible to travel upto the depth of the directory structure just from Breadcrumb bar, ELIMINATING THE NECESSITY TO OPEN MANY FOLDERS),
say for example, we have 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 , if we click on the triangle of '2' in the drop-down bar it shows the contents of '2' BUT there in that drop-down there is NO TRIANGLE in front '3' so that we can go more-levels down the hierearhy using the bread-crumb bar
Is there any option to enable this feature
(4) XY saves the comments written on FOLDERS in it's local scope,
Is there some option to tell XY that i want the specific 'FOLDER comment' to be saved in .ini file (shell) and not local to XY
(5) Is there a way to see the INFO (NUMERIC) about contents (Just ONE-level down) in the folder,
Say Folder1 -> 3 items (calculating only at the JUST-LOWER level, AND NOT COUNTNG FOR ALL LEVELS down the hierarchy)
or Folder1 -> 2 SubDir / 1 File (calculating only at the JUST-LOWER level, AND NOT COUNTNG FOR ALL LEVELS down the hierarchy)
(6) Can we set the grid lines to show the column-divider also, so that finally it will have horizonal-as well as-vertical lines, Just-like in Excel in the Folder-list-view
(7) As the beloved developer has taken so deep interest in user-experiences,
I'm almost sure that there IS a feature like 'scrap container in xplorer2' in XY also, but i could not find where is it ....please help in locating it

If I get you right this happens to be something I'm doing right now!
But please elaborate a bit.... what exactly are you talking about?

1) Might depend on your ZIP handler but with 7z installed the preview tab shows the content
2) AFAIK No
3) Don't know
5) Search the forum for "Custom Columns" or "CC", there have been a few approaches recently to show exactly that info in the list
6) Don't know
7) Search for "Item Store", which might do what you're looking for (It's a script for a toolbar button)

I didn't know that! Thanks, great.
@gks: Folder comment: did you mean the desktop.ini file (which can store a customizable folder tooltip) ?

@admin,
Scenario 1 -> If i write a comment to a FOLDER using xplorer2 or some other program which writes the comment to shell / .ini file -> i'm able to see that comment under 'commentS' column in WE
also i'm able to see that comment under custom column -> property 'commentS' IN XY ALSO.
Scenario 2 -> If i write a comment to a FOLDER using XY,
In XY, I'm able to see that comment under column 'comment' and not under a new column -> custom column -> property 'commentS'
i'm also not able to see that comment in WE under 'commentS' column
Is there any way to make XY also to write comments (at least for FOLDERS) which can be read in WE / other applications, using WE's standard columns
PS : any pointers regarding other features also . . . .

I don't know how to do that.

Ah, this is something completely different from what I'm doing right now.
I think these are ADS (Alternate Data Streams in NTFS) comments. XYplorer does not support writing those comments.

Not here, but would be nice to have. How did you do it?
I have 7-zip 32bit installed. (Win7 64bit)

@autocart, IP preview of archives worked for me when I added zip to "Previewed Formats>Web&Office files".
Only missing feature is the ability of going back/up in archive's folder structure.

wow, thx SammaySarkar
now it works. At home I have IZArc installed and I can even browse the folders in the zip archive in the preview window.
cool

Funny,
zip-preview does work over here with 7z (x64) but
7z-files are always opened in 7z externally, outside the info panel.
Cheers,
Filehero

Adding zip;rar extensions to Web&Office files worked for me as well using WinRAR. I could view them previously in floating and full screen but not the preview info panel. Now it works.
Strange though that my floating and full screen preview display all the files in all the subfolders like in a branch view where as the preview info panel does not (i.e., you double click on a folder to get the files within...which is what I prefer). Thanks from me too Sammay.

@Don, modifying NTFS data streams is pretty easy, from the cmd prompt.
Code: Select all
Write to ADS | Read from ADS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
echo StreamDataHere > file:StreamTitle | more < file:StreamTitle
| (outputs StreamDataHere)
AB xys examples with <curitem>:
Code: Select all
Write to stream titled XYcomment | Read XYcomment
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
echo "I'm a comment" > "<curitem>":XYcomment | more < "<curitem>":XYcomment
| (outputs "I'm a comment"
| quotes are part of data)
Looking forward to formal ADS editing in XY.
I learned about IP archive preview from RalphM, transferring all thanks to him then

Didn't Windows stop to support ADS? So adding this as a feature to XY would be using NTFS features behind the back of Windows. It would work but is it cool? ADS can be used to do very dangerous things...

Unsupported but available. ADS can do dangerous things, but XY has nothing to do with that. Visual Studio can create dangerous stuff, but that's not VS or MS's responsibility!
But the decision is always yours
