Config takes about 1 sec to open :(

It seems lately that when I select Config, it takes about a second to open...I realize my system is not that fast (1GHz) but should it take that long? My CPU usage is only about 6%-15% so I'm not overloaded in other tasks...

I'll try this tonight on a slwer machine at home because my work machine is near instant (C2D 2.67GHz, so it should be!).

Opens instantly here as well.

Humm....on my PIII Mobile laptop with 512MB of memory, I can get into NotePad edit of INI a bit quicker than the config panels...not sure exactly when it started getting slower, but it used to be faster, I'm sure...

I might have said it before somewhere: the comboboxes (aka drop-down lists) are the speed-breakers. MS must have had a very bad day when they coded these. On a *-GHz PC you note when a combobox with 4 (!) entries is added!!!

Hey hey hey. And I already use the craziest API hacks to make them as "fast" as possible. Freaky!

So do I understand you correctly that adding the drop-down for the four color list modes is what put on the brakes? Or was it already a bit slow due to thumbnail size drop-downs, and this just added to it?

Both. Crazy, huh?

So I'm wondering...exactly how many people here really do use different color setups for the four different modes? Given that previously one could only change them via INI, as I understood it..and as this selection pull-down slows down load time on my newer system...haven't tried it on old, but maybe there it would take even longer!

Just to make sure: my config does not take 1 sec but ca 200 msec! So there might be another reason for your slow load... or is the last version before that new dropdown so much faster?

I happened to have a copy of 5.20.00 EXE in my XY folder so tried it...the config loads a bit quicker but not in approx 1/2 sec like I'd theorized..
I don't have any way to tell (that I know of) the exact delay time to open config, so I'm just approximating at 1 seconds as I can speak the ole "one thousand and one" during the delay....
True, changing config is normally something not done everyday, but when I was experimenting with color changes, it became a real draaaaaaaaag!
My INI file is about 588 lines as I don't have a huge number of customizations going...not sure if that has any connection, but thought I'd throw it in.

Saw the comments about 5.40.16 and better load speed of config...well, I tried it...and it's a bit quicker...maybe 10%?...but still takes close to 1 second here...

I can't believe it! It's at 50 ms now at my place!
EDIT: did you try to re-reopen it? The cache effect is of course only notable for any on-first open.
BTW, you can see the exact value at the bottom of the "Report" tab.

Well i don't get any delay, but I can't see where I'm supposed to see the config load time int he Report tab. Or is that's the "Application shown in 715 ms (fully loaded in 779 ms)" thang?

Yep. You don't see it?
