Weird behavior in configuration dialog

I'm using XYplorerFree version 14.00.0000 on a Windows 7 netbook. Great program, and everything appears to be working just fine except for the configuration dialog, where the submenus are misplaced.

Examples:
Clicking on "File Operations" brings up an empty page with the appropriate title but no options whatsoever. However, if I click on the following submenu, "Find Files & Branch View", I get the options for "File Operations", while the title shown is still "Find Files & Branch View".

To bring up the find files and branch view options, I have to click on "Undo & Action Log", the title is wrong there, as well.

Similarly, preview options are under "Previewed Formats", and the options for previewed formats appear in "File Info Tips".

I was able to complete all my configurations successfully, but the shell integration options are under features, which is the last submenu, so the real features menu is missing altogether. No biggie in that case, because the options in that menu don't apply to the free edition, anyway.

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

I can confirm that the configuration dialog is busted in the free version of 14.00. Looks like in hiding those options not available in free the index of the categories gets out of sync with their corresponding option panes.

Nice find!
I bet Don (admin) will quickly fix this with a maintenance release when he wakes up. ;)

That's exactly what I suspect. The dialog appears to have been re-worked, too, because I don't recall seeing the categories grouped under bold headings in the previous version. Choosing a config category by right-clicking a toolbar button seems to work fine, however, and this may be the first program I've used that shows detailed context menus for toolbar buttons -- one of the many great ideas in this app!

Btw, a little addition that could be beneficial: when clicking on a bold item a message like "page intentionally blank/click on a sub-item" appears on the right. Sandboxie did this (don't know if it still does...)

There's also the route that Microsoft uses in Visual Studio - selecting the category header is the same as selecting its first child.

Admittedly, I find this confusing at times but its arguably a better user experience than showing nothing or a message about the nothingness and spares needing translated. :?

Plan C: jump to first item in section. Feels a bit funny at first, but makes total sense. You'll see...

I guess there are a lot of different approaches one could take. If the bold headings were unclickable altogether and just there to describe the submenus as a kind of group, the user would soon learn to click the subheadings instead. Or, if they're clickable, they could function like the parent folders in tree view: Collapsing and expanding the group as required. The trouble with the latter approach is that if the groups start out collapsed, the user may not know which group to look in for the options he wants.

By this you can probably see how little I know about programming. ;)

Yes, much better than seeing the blank page.
