AutoSelect v Search

Minor gripe

with autoselect / remembering selected files / folder. It causes some problems when I do searches - if I accidentally have a folder selected when I initiate a search XY searches just that folder.
Some people may indeed find this useful, but I don't - am constantly spending my time (well 2 secs of it) double clicking on a blank area in the current tab to remove the selection so I can search the tab folder.
It is also slightly misleading as the location on the find files tab may show 'F:' but when I run the search it has actually searched 'F:\Programs' (caught out by that a couple of times).
Thanks
Andy

Yep, happens to me too once in a while. What about an option to turn off that sort of multi-location search? (I do not think I
ever used it on purpose!

)

Yes, and I'd suggest not to add this option on the Configuration window but on the FF/Location panel (with disabling the Location field when activated..). That way one can see/change that option on every search
ps: I did used it on purpose a couple of times

I've read this thread a few times and hate to admit that I still don't quite follow under what conditions this occurs...can someone try using different wording, please?
Option

Option on the FF/Location panel would be fine by me (providing it applies to all searches including saved searches in the catalog).
Glad it's not just me that gets caught out by this

. It's a minor thing, but very annoying.
Thanks

JC,
My complaint is that if I select a tab e.g. C: or F: to search that location, if there is a folder highlighted in that tab then XYonly searches that folder e.g. if the highlighting for C:\Program files has been remembered then the search only occurs in C:\Program files (and doesn't therefore return the expected results).
The confusing thing is that the location in the Find Files is displayed as C:\ when the search is initiated but magically becomes C:\Program files (just becuase the folder is highlighted).
For me this is not a desired effect (I want to search the Tab Location NOT the highlighted folder in listview).
Apologies if that was a bit long winded.
Cheers

Andy, had to chance to try a few things and now see what you mean!
Yes, I'd definitely
agree that is unexpected! I'd want it to search what I have showing in the Location box and ignore the fact that I just happen to be on a folder in the list...Given that if one wants to scan that folder, you can just click on it to put it into Location, so I don't see why any option would be needed.

Another way (and less heavy on the GUI) would be to pop a prompt in the (rather rare) case of selected folders in the list when starting a search.
If not (not sure yet) then what would be a good title for the checkbox? "Use selections as locations"? "Search selected locations"? Clumsy clumsy...

How about just 'Selected Locations' not perfect but the fact that it's plural should give the game away ?
See what you mean though Don, not easy to describe
Cheers
