XYplorer Beta Club

For a few months, I'm guessing since around when Win 8.1 came out, "Save As" and the Browse file location icon in some programs have been opening Windows Explorer instead of XYplorer. Two programs I use frequently that are exhibiting this are Internet Download Mgr and PDF X-Change Viewer. XYplorer is set as the default browser under Shell Integration, but is there somewhere else it needs setting? This wasn't a problem before the past few months, either under Win 8 or Win 7. Any ideas? Don't those buttons usually open a default shell dialog to choose a file/folder? (in fact XYP itself uses this dialog (e.g, scripting->load script, PFA->browse)). I don't think that's changeable, but I don't yet have win8, so there's that.

They do. Even under Win 8.1.

I can't reproduce this behavior (Win 7 / 8 / 8.1).

I wonder where it's coming from then. Here are screenshots of 1) what the Windows Explorer window looks like with Save As in PDF-XChange Viewer - note the lack of sizing options - and 2) my XYplorer default file manager settings.

Please resize your pictures to 800 x XXX (depending on your aspect ratio).

Which missing resize controls?
The Open / Save dialog is not the same as a normal window. It doesn't have the minimize / maximize controls. If you can't drag it smaller from there, did you try to doubleclick the title bar of that window (and use the size control after doing that)?

Image sizes reduced. There is no resize in the lower right corner and the arrows on the borders don't respond, but double clicking on the title bar did solve the sizing problem. Thanks!

Now the question is why Win Explorer Save As opens instead of XYplorer. Isn't that something XYplorer can override with its default manager choice? I thought it did until a few months ago, but then I'm getting old and the memory isn't what it used to be. :(

Apart from PDF Exchange Viewer and Download Mgr your other programs invoke an XYplorer window when you use e.g. "File - Save as" in them? Show us some screenshots for this kind of behavior please.

I just checked a few and can't find any...currently. Perhaps I was mistaken and confused the full screen window and its attributes with the smaller window I was seeing before.

Still, the question is whether or not Win Explorer is set up by MS so that it can't be overriden for operations like we're discussing. It obviously can be for opening drives and subdirectories (folders), as I have a bunch of icons on my desktop for those, all of which open XYplorer except (My) Computer and Desktop.

I haven't seen a replacement (through a different file manager!) for this window yet hence the reason I asked for screenshots Ofc it's possible (the checkmark in the configuration of XY does it) to override standard opening behavior (desktop, drives, folders) but this is just for navigating, not for file savings and the like. These are standard registry settings.

Autohotkey is able to make the "save as / open" dialog the parent of an xyplorer window but I don't think that you're using this. It's a script floating around somewhere in the forum here.

Your question was fair, i.e., "Are you sure this isn't happening all around?" I wouldn't mind looking at a hot key. My only concern is how it integrates with IDM (and other programs) without creating confusion about what I'm looking at, at any moment.
