If you use the "Back" toolbar button to navigate back in your folder history, the "Forward" button enables, allowing you to go where you just were. However, if you use the Backsapce key, the "Forward" button doesn't enable and you can't use it. However, if you use Alt-Left to go back, everything works as it should.

Backspace is not Back! Backspace is Up!

Ah. That would explain it. I guess I was thinking it worked the same as both Explorer and Windows explorer

It does. My WE goes up when I backspace.
