When I wanted to create a new directory/file and give it a Hebrew name XYPlorer (eval) did not accommodate. A43 & Dir Opus just did it…

Foreign languages in filenames are not supported.

This issue doesn't apply to me, but I'm looking at it from the sales point of view...is the limitation due to: code limitations, philosophy, or error prevention? Because I can see that it might discourage potential users in other countries that use non-standard char sets...especially if competing products do allow it, as it appears some do...so something to look at.

I could even see an rare impact on English users like me, as there could be a case where I get a file from my distant relatives in Sweden which has three "extra" letters in their alphabet, and the filename may have one of those in it...maybe it'll never occur, or maybe my W2K wouldn't allow it anyway, but just giving an example.

Technical limitations: the language can't do it.

I've run into this a couple of times myself with some Chinese files. XY chokes and WE sails. Pity the language can't do it

Okay, JC, since you are multiplying what XY cannot do in other forums (thanks! ), I should be more careful in what I say. I should have said: "Technical limitations: the language can't do it easily." In fact UNICODE support is possible, but with a LOT of work. So, if for example the Japanese government would decide to put their money into XY instead of nuclear weapons, then XYplorer would learn to print Japanese. Hey, it would even talk Japanese!

My intent in this was simply to follow-up on a issue/topic that might be of use to others...and I think that the response I posted there made it clear that:
1) Author responds very quickly to queries
2) Author does NOT think foreign lang support is unneeded, which may otherwise be the impression.

Besides, the original comment that I quoted made it clear what XY cannot do, so I kinda couldn't do any futher 'damage'...
I thought I actually offset the negative comment, in a roundabout way..
