Can I force new tabs to all open at the same place, say, C:\

I'm running 11.90.0100, the free version from GiveAwayOfTheDay. But I'm ready to hand over cash and get the latest and greatest.
But it's annoying, to me anyway, that when I click on a new tab it duplicates the tab I'm in. If I'm buried deep in a folder structure it's very tedious to have to climb back out in the new tab so I can then navigate to my new destination.
I haven't seen any options to change that. Any suggestions? Perhaps there's is some other functionality I'm not aware of that would mitigate this "issue"?
Thanks! (and be gentle, it's my first time.)

Welcome to the forum!
Within
XYplorer.ini, there is an INI tweak called
StartPathNewTab under
[Settings] which allows you to set a start path for all new tabs.
For instructions on what an INI tweak is and how to configure it, read this post:

Thanks! I thought there might be something in the .ini file, but guessing which of the 1200+ lines was the culprit...
I notice now though, the folder structure in the new tab duplicates the tab I was in. But it does move the focus to the C:\ (in my case.) Is there another setting to open the tab with the folder structure collapsed? (I have 13 mapped drives, plus the locals, so it can get messy.)
Thanks for the quick reply!

Doing a search for 'Tweak' within
XYplorer.ini will reveal a number of options that haven't yet earned a place in the GUI, and a few that had their chance but got sent back to minors.

You mean the folder structure in the tree?
I'm not much of a tree user so someone else might have to speak up or could offer better suggestions. I know these tricks help me...
1) Within
Tools >
Configuration, select the
Tree and List section, and under the
Tree heading you'll find
Auto-Optimize Tree. Enabling this will collapse non-current nodes.
2) If you find having
Auto-Optimize Tree enabled isn't enough, there is another INI tweak under
[Settings] called
AutoOptimizeTreeRadical. Setting it to '1' will trigger the optimizing on location changes which should occur more frequently than the previous option.
3) If you'd like to make your tree even more optimal, there is the
Mini Tree feature which allows you to reduce the vast forest of folders into just the few you care about or are currently browsing/using. You can enable it by selecting
View >
Mini Tree >
Mini Tree.
If I'm honest I'd actually suggest you try Mini Tree first and then the other options. Again, as someone who doesn't use the tree often, having all three enabled is the only way I can stand even having it visible.

I'll test the Auto-Optimize.
I've looked at the Mini-Tree, and saw in the forums how much it's liked, but I haven't quite come to terms with it yet. It seems that if I'm working in just specific folders then I agree it looks great. But if I need to go to a different folder than what's already in the mini-tree, I'll have to go back to full tree to get there. Or am I missing something else about it?
You say you're not much of a tree user, maybe I'm not understanding the term as XYplorer users use it, but if you do mean the folder structure, expanded folders in a hierarchy, how else do you navigate in a drive?

Well you can tell the Mini Tree to show specific folders, or minimize it to just the currently opened tabs, but to navigate (via tree) to a folder not already listed you'd have to expand a visible root and dig down from there.

I'm more of a keyboard user, so the majority of my navigating is done through the address bar with auto-completion and aliases.
I've never found a hierarchy tree that's particularly pleasant to use with the keyboard, largely because they rarely separate the current/selected item from the focused one. This means most actions you can take with the keyboard cause a navigation change or list update, and that seems inefficient to me.

Try the first name you see in the tree - for German it's just Computer

There is also an (XYplorer only) environment variable: %computer%
