Copy paste issue with Toolbar buttons

Hi, greetings to all XYplorians,
i am using xyplorer for a while and must say i very satisfied with this wonderful file manger, although there are few features i would like to see in XYplorer. But today i am just posting an issue i faced with cut copy paste toolbar buttons.

What i did was:
copied a word from firefox, then in XY created a new folder and while the new folder was in rename mode clicked on "paste button" on toolbar,
Nothing happened,
But if i press ctrl + v on keyboard it pastes the text in folder rename box as expected.

Then i found out that all 3 toolbar buttons (cut/copy/paste) are not working for text selected in rename mode( when file/folder name text is selected) instead they cut or copy selected file itself. i dont think its expected behaviour. interestingly if keyboard shortcuts are used they dont cause this issue. Has anyone faced this issue?

TIA
Tejas

Hi and Welcome Tejas!
The cut/copy/paste button you have in the toolbar is for use on files/folders. Example: copy text from firefox and on XY navigate to menu Edit, you will see paste is greyed out. So you cannot paste text to rename files that way.
But with scripting you can create custom buttons on your toolbar to achieve this. If interested ask around and someone will help you with this.

Thanks for replying serendipity,
scripting buttons is surely good solution, i will look into it. However If these buttons are only for files/folders then i think its quite an exception. I would like to know why these buttons should not copy text.

My general reasoning behind my question is like this - In most programs (not just file managers) these commands do both things(cut/copy/paste text from/to clipboard as well as other objects). In XY these button still have the commonly used icons and KS. The hover tooltip shows ctrl+c, ctrl+v shortcuts on these buttons and so you tend to assume they can do both too.

I agree most users using keyboard shortcuts wont have trouble with this, but i tend to be very mousy sometimes, so i keep stumbling upon it
I seem to be missing the advantage of it if any.

Well, AFAIK this is not true for file managers, or do you know one where you can paste text using these buttons?

For the mousy folks, the rename box has a right-click menu with Copy/Paste commands.

 Well yeah you are right. i checked some of file managers i tried before none of them work that way, only partially. Hard to say how i got that impression. Side effect of working too late :? . Really very few other programs do that eg, Word (but it should obviously),
I think i only meant to suggest that it would be a nice to have these buttons working on text also. Otherwise right click menu is still fine. Not such a big thing compared to what you have at hand currently.
I know this thread is about bugs but have to say you are doing superb work! i especially love the image features like mouse down blow up and other thumbnail options. Simply awesome ! Makes my life as a web designer a lot easier! Having so many innovative features in one program makes you expect little too much everywhere, don't blame me!

Great to hear that. You are the kind of folks I have in mind with my tool.

Hi,

I am also a very big fan of XYplorer and have used it for many years. But with the latest version (14.5) I have a very annoying problem, similar to that posted in this thread. If I copy some text from anywhere (including from within XYplorer itself), then I can not paste that text into the filename when trying to rename the file. I've attached a screenshot showing what I mean - you will see that the paste option is *not* greyed out, but despite this, when I click paste, nothing at all happens. With the older version of XYplorer, I did not have this problem (though I changed to a new laptop around the same time).

Welcome to the club.
(sorry your first post had to be a bug report)

Are you using any clipboard manager software? Disable that and retry copy-paste.

can you paste the copied text elsewhere? say, file rename in windows explorer?

Thanks for your reply.
No, I'm not using any clipboard manager software.
And yes, the text can be pasted elsewhere, and pastes into file rename in Windows Explorer without any problem. Only XYplorer can not paste. Very odd.

Can you paste text into the address bar?
