I believe that there is already a feature to take care of this for you--check it out

From the help documentation:

Code: Select all

Close All Other Unlocked Tabs: close all unlocked tabs apart from the current tab.
Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+W
That closes all tabs unless they are locked (or the active tab)

Maybe I'm misreading something, but it seems that pissant wants Ctrl+W to "abort" when on a locked tab, even if that happens to be the current one...not to just to close the others, but to attempt to close current tab...and that if current is locked, leave it open without a prompt msg....

I took it as wanting to close all unlocked tabs while keeping locked tabs open, not abord the whole operation -- either way, the caveat still stands that the current tab won't be closed regardless. So it'll require two keystrokes -- or just switch to a locked tab before doing.

hmm.. yes but one could not close a locked tab, ever. Would have to unlock it first. Some might just see this as a "bigger problem"; esp. since now the Close Tab feature would simply seems to not be working anymore!

Besides, as mentionned before, using "Close All Other Unlocked Tabs" yes you have a prompt/confirmation, of course, but just one, not one per locked-tab ;)

pissant, your comment about hot keys was VERY good!

 Heck, I can't keep track of all the shortcut keys WITHIN XY, let alone all the other applications! That's why I don't use that many of them...I'd rather go via toolbar/menu/mouse, even if it takes a bit longer...

But having to actually unlock a tab before closing it might make sense to more than you...it kinda does to me...after all, it is "locked", right?

No one will ever scream at you here don't worry ;) And you don't have to remember all shortcuts (I don't know this one either actually.. only the ones I use every day or so), but know that if you right-click on a tab-header, you got pretty much all you can do on tabs on the context menu: open a new one, close it, (un)lock it, etc (including the Close All Other & Close All Other Unlocked commands)

Anyways, it could be easy to add an option to disable the Close command for locked tabs, maybe Don will go for it... wait & see ;)

So, the wish is to (optionally) simply do nothing when a locked tab shall be closed? That's not intuitive. When user runs a command, something should happen and if only a message box saying "Nothing happened".

I'll agree with that when you add a message for the "Info to clipboard" commands...

I'll suggest just a text in the 3rd panel of the statusbar then. You got your message & there's no popup aka key to press or anything
After all, you do that when putting reports to clipboard....

You mean "No, I won't close the tab because you locked it.", or you mean a message for the "Info to clipboard" commands?

I kinda meant for both.

For the "Info to Clipboard" it could make sense, especially since it kinda already happen for the two items here that actually generate a report (we then get a "Report created" message), so having otherwise a "Info copied into clipboard" cannot hurt (you could even say which were done, in case one "misclicked")

For the closing of tabs, it doesn't bother me how it is now, but wouldn't bother me either if you added the option to not get a popup (but a statusbar message instead). I leave that one up to you ;)
