Comment from the peanut gallery - I am not a big fan of the top header - the dark gray bar looks "clunky" somehow.

Not an artist myself - I like the center header with the transparent background. I think H1 should be a variation of that type of header.

I also wonder if both headers could have their font size reduced just a little - somewhere between what it was before with the pig skin background and where it is now.

Anyway - just my 2 cents - worth about 2 Yen :)

As I understand it, it's intended to make the wiki and the XY site look a bit more similar...that's where the color came from...it's used on left sidebar and top header there.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Well, I don't think adding a dotted line above would be a good idea. Sure H2 has one, but it also had a background color, it's a whole package, so I think for H3 a dotted "underline" is enough.
j_c_hallgren wrote:I still believe there should be some link visible/available on each page in wiki that allows direct link back to XY site...so...maybe a special entry on left sidebar?
Ok, added a link under "hot" in the sidebar
lukescammell wrote:Looking good. <h2>s still not aligned on the left properly though ;)
yeah I know, but that's an on purpose thing ;) I still like it when not everything is aligned, and I think it works/it's ok there, so I'll let it that way 8)

lukescammell wrote:Personal preference, I really don't like all the horizontal lines everywhere. It's fine if there are only a couple of headings on a page, but a page with many of them on looks cluttered.
I agree that it's personal preference, as I find them quite useful to locate and visually isolate the portion/section that I want...I've been looking for a page that has too many but haven't yet found one...
Well, pages like Configuration or Find Files are probably the ones with more sections than others. Though with the new skin there should be more "air" & less lines, that was part of the idea in the beginning... ;)

I can't connect to the XYwiki, it appears to be offline/down for me. Can anyone else connect?

No, no one can. :(

Ok guys, so I got bad news. And I feel really bad about this all thing... but yeah, as you have noticed, the wiki's now down. It's been so for a few days already now :?

And the very bad news, which I'm really sorry, embarassed & bit ashamed about is, there will be data lost
Long story short, I've had a little HDD problem, and obviously it's the same day the HDD on the server decided to crash as well it seems...

I am trying to put everything back up asap but, there has been data lost unfortunately. The latest DB backups I do have are from 03.23.07, so some changes will have to be redone. Here is what should be the full list:

> 5.80.0010
Raw View/Preview LNK/Target.

> 5.80.0011
INI Tricks: Tree: now you can control the vertical spacing between nodes

> 5.80.0014 (which BTW I just realized is called 0012 on the latest changes/beta topic!)
Change row height in Tree, List and/or Catalog. Hardcore INI or mouse wheel trick!

I had no luck and couldn't find any pages from the wiki on my cache  Stupid thing! Don, however, had some changes regarding the 0010 changes (previewing shortcuts) still in his cache, so thanks to him & based on that I rewrote that part already.

Now, if anyone is able to find more in his cache, especially regarding the 0012 changes (Tree, List, Catalog, INI Tricks, and a new page Row Height) that'd be greatly appreciated, so please let me know! Thanks.

I'm also trying to get the server back up & running, then I'll put the wiki up and we'll forget about this hopefully ;)

I'm hoping to be able to do all this this week, to get a new wiki back up & running as before by the end of the week. Then I can make full backups on 8 different drives, floppy, CDs, and take a moment to relax before the whole CKS thing comes up! ;)

Again, I'm really sorry about the whole downtime & data lost situation.

Allright guys, so the wiki has been up for & couple of days or so, everything seems to work fine and I've finished the setup of automatic DB backups to 2 different locations, to be safe.
I still have to make an automatic procedure for files as well, but honestly the DB is the most important part...

I've also - I think/hope - redone all changes that had been lost, so now the wiki is back up & running as before :D

Ok, Don, bring on the CKS ;)

Just wanted to thank jacky for all his work in recovering the wiki!
It's become a valuable resource for beginners (and some of us old-timers as well) and hopefully won't get lost again.
Speaking of losing data: Y'all heard about the guy in Alaska state govt who lost all the data for pipepline fund? They had to spend $200K+ as I recall to recover it from printed forms.

Working on it all the time. You all will love it! First appetizer version comes pretty soooon...

Wiki: any idea why it is slower than before? Or is my perception wrong?

And where is the CSS crack that will fix this little alignment issue visible on top of each page in IE?

I'm not sure. Sometimes I get the feeling that the first page I'll load seems a bit slower than before, but then when I browse even to "big" pages (File Find, etc) it's pretty fast. Didn't felt slow when editing/uploading either... And I don't even think I feel that way the first time I go to the wiki with FF, so... who knows!

Ditto that! I'll have to work on that again and hopefully fix this...

I can't edit anything because "Confirmation e-mail sent." does not send any email, so I'm not authenticated...

Yeah I saw that, not sure where/what causes this, but the wiki doesn't seem to "format" the destination email address as it should :? eg. I got a returned mail with error: "Message: 501 <<don@domain.ext>: missing or malformed local part"
Now why would he add an extra "<" ? (and, why did he not do it for me?)

Anyways, I changed the way destination email address is "generated"/formatted, and hopefully this will work now.

CKS in the wiki

Post by admin »

Hey jacky, you did another great job with that new chapter on CKS!

http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/index.php/Cu ... _Shortcuts

And quite fearless, since it's still in BETA state and little things might change...

Thanks!
