Ok, with Tree and Catalog in separate columns (List to the right). If I do a List Centered, depending upon settings either Tree or Catalog is moved to the Right respecting its width. However; the left most column doesn't release this width. Similarly, when both tree and column are moved to the same side, it doesn't add up the width, but divides it.
Nasty side-effect: Info Preview is no longer resizing the preview on resizing the IP panel

Thanks from here too Don. All that hard work really paid off. Though this little script still works:
Code: Select all
if get(#660) {#660;} // Address Bar
if !get(#661) {#661;} // Tool Bar
if !get(#662) {#662;} // Tab bar
if !get(#663) {#663;} // Nav Pnl
if !get(#664) {#664;} // Show Catalog
if get(#665) {#665;} // Info Pnl
if !get(#670) {#670;} // Status Bar
if get(#671) {#671;} // Breadcrumb Bar
if !get(#1061) {#1061;} // Menu Bar
if get("#800") {#800;} // Dual Pane
It has now become this:
and faster than ever. Very cool!
Ken
Followup edit: I noticed the layout saves do not include the "Menu Bar" as part of the layout. I realize Menu bar is not one selectable choices in the Windows section of the Menu bar, but regardless, it would be nice to have it included in the layout saves along with the other bars. Thanks again.

doesn't add up the width: oh yes, I had planned that but it somehow got lost... will try to make it happen
Info Preview: Whoops, there is something totally broken... fix coming...

grindax wrote:Looking good. It's great to finally have this functionality in XY.
Two notes:
When choosing 'List Centered', 'Tree and Catalog Stacked' should become greyed out.
Something strange is going on with the resizing of the Tree and the Catalog when switching the List into different positions, and when switching between stacked/unstacked for the Tree and Catalog. I can't figure out what rules are being applied, but I expect that the horizontal width of the 3 different things (Tree, Catalog, and Stacked Tree/Catalog) should be maintained when switching them from one side to the other. The horizontal size of the List should have the lowest priority compared to those other 3 things, and should just occupy whatever space is left over.
Yes, there is one bug. I saw it 2 minutes after upload (

).

OK, fixed a couple of glitches. But it's still not perfect yet. No more time today. But perfection will come ASAP.

Still I'm very glad, the fav folder catalog on the right is so tremendously handy, it's a major step forward in usability. Thanks again, Don for taking the challenge and risk of breaking a lot of working 'historical' code - and all supporters supporting Don to support this idea.

BTW, this script will come handy soon...
Code: Select all
$cs = listfolder("<xydata>\Layouts", "*.txt", 5);
$cs = replace($cs, ".txt", "");
$c = popupmenu($cs);
if ($c) {loadlayout($c)};
Did I get it right, that this perfection will also include that script in a native version with a little 'current layout' indicator icon (also available via a TB)? I think, especially new XYers would really benefit from direct access to a small set of selected "showcasing' out-of-the-box layouts.
Cheers,
Filehero

Took me a few hours to catch my breath and get my jaws back together (after it dropped to the floor.)
Awesome. Switching back and forth between layouts is smooth, no flickering, no agonizing screen jumbles.

Exactly.
Took me while to set up the tree left and the catalog right, with dual panes in the middle.
Here's the combination that got me there, not exactly what you call obvious - but hey, I now have the exact layout I was after. No complaints. I am happy.

Looks like a bug to me

Not sure if it's a bug. Remember what he said in Beta release notes about List position taking priority. I get Tree on the left left, List (dual) in the middle and Catalog on the right without the Tree and Catalog Stacked being checked. When it comes down to it, as grindax mentioned above, when choosing 'List Centered', 'Tree and Catalog Stacked' should become greyed out" since it really doesn't apply.

Well, no such plans. Since UAC it is a hassle to deploy user-configurable files with an installation.
