I did not follow the complete thread, but from the screenshot seems like your .mov files are still associated with Gomplayer. Could you associate it with WM or Media Player Classic (See below)?
In my case .mov is associated with Media player classic (MPC player comes from installing K-lite mega codec pack).

I read this on the codec guide FAQ which sounds very similar to your issue:
Q: Some .mov files play without sound
A: The solution is to install QuickTime (or QTA or QT Lite). That way MPC will use the QuickTime framework for playing .mov files.

Thanks for your input Serendiptiy, however, we have just about gone full circle now. We started off by uninstalling GOM player( very difficult to do without it as it plays all e mail attached media files instantly) however, it made no difference, just as the Win Media (bloat)Player has NOT either ! However as we HAVE changed the goal posts a little, I will go and uninstall GOM player for the fourth time, just to see.

...at the risk of being a haemorrhoid, may I repeat that with / without Quicktime installed makes no difference to the "playability" with other file managers, or as far I have tested over the last three days-- with XYP either.

You don't have to uninstall Gom. Just associate .mov with WMP or the player that came with K-lite (I recall you installed this codec pack, or?).

OK I uninstalled it again anyway--the mov files WERE associated with WMP anyway--I checked in F9--then highlighted a MOV file in XYP--" Not a text file" --yet again--this is sooo repetitive. See attached screens.

Again sorry, i did not follow why you added .mov in "Text files" section. You cannot add it in "Audio and Video" section of Previewed formats?

Apologies I entered mov in Text in error. However the net result is no different I still get a progress bar and no preview in XYP. This is SOOO frustrating as other apps simply play all the media formats whether or not Quicktime / WMP /GOM player are installed or not. I realise there are some issues about adapting XYP to recognise MOV files, but it looks to me like at the end of the day, for whatever reason XYP is just too sensitive for it to work on my Win 7 Ultimate system...large, deep sigh.

The screenshot tells me that you did not make the tweak alright. Please read the link about tweaking again and try to do it right.

OK, few questions:
1) did you restart after you set the association?
2) Did you install the K-lite codec pack? If so, did you opt to install its player Media player classic?

I am asking this because I have the 2 Win7 ultimates (32-bit and 64-bit) and almost exact same settings like yours except for Gomplayer part.

The steps i follows after Win7 install are:
-Install K-lite codec pack.
-Install quicktime alternative
-Associate Media player classic with all video formats
-XY previews them all.

To be fair, i've been doing this for past 5 years and not come across a case like your in any of my 20+ PCs.
Sorry to hear that you had to go through this nightmare. I hope it works out.

Ok I created a new tweak ( copied/pasted from your post) ( see screenshot) I then restarted without saving. The mov file still "plays" with no video and no sound-ie the preview area is blank. If I have misundersatood please try to lead me by my nose once more?

hulland what codec pack are you using(if you are actually using)
I'm using the newest K-Lite Codec Pack and mov are running fine

When I start a mov file here,in the tray along with haali, appear ffdshow audio/video

Does that mov file work fine when you try to play it in Windows Media Player(not in the embedded player in xyp)

MOV and any video format that I have on my pc is associated to MPlayerWW which don't need nor use any external code packs.

Well, this screenshot clearly shows what happens when you create the tweak instead of editing it. You have two times the same key, one =1 and one = 0. So please simply follow the instructions as they are written, and try once more.

Sincere apologies--I misunderstood your meaning of "set a tweak". I have now edited the previous =0 to =1 and voila, my mov files are previewed instantly.

My apologies for being mentally sub-normal. Many thanks for all your time and effort to drag me out of the mire. XYP triumphs again.

In almost all cases, you just have to locate the desired key and change the value, but in some cases, you have to save INI from a newer vers to create those default keys first...and in rare cases, you create the entire key/value yourself but as you've found, you need to make sure you're not duplicating another existing one.
