Thanks. Could you please describe the drop operation? What from where to where, what mouse button, what copy command. Is the progress dialog modeless? Is background processing involved? Is Undo/Redo enabled?

On that particular drag/drop - I went from ACDSee to XY, however, I usually use two open instances of xy --- was using ACDSee lately to see if it made a difference. Usually, I'm in thumbnail mode but not always.

Usually I drop into the list view not the tree though I do drop to folders in the tree on occasion. I do not recall if I ever got the error when dropping to the tree -- I don't think so but not sure.

I use the mouse -- select -- sometimes one item - sometimes multiples - somtimes adjacent selects sometimes not. Left click - hold - drag then drop to folder. The error message appears but the drop completes.

Background processing is enabled. undo redo enabled. sometimes there are other windows open - sometimes not - doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've mentioned before that now the program doesn't close when you click the okay button on the error message but the error appears on all subsequent actions. In this particular case, I kept using xy and tried drag/drops from another instance of xy and then explorer - no difference - kept getting the error messages. Kept using it until xy jammed on a rename operation -- no error message - just dings as if there is an open dialog waiting for input. Closed program. opened another instance instance of xy and acdsee and continued my sorting operations for the next hour with no problems.

@all on win7/64 (32?): When you have time, please try to get the error with undo/redo disabled. Can you get it?

Just got Error 10 while doing Move To... I closed the error dialog and XY still stayed up. The move was done. Then I got the error right again while deleting 5 files. And then again when deleting a single file. Looks like it gets stuck in a mode. Restarted to clear.

Small PNG file with a tag of "Red" on it, in the rhs pane and pressed the Delete key on the keyboard. Delete completed and no crash. Overlay icons are off.

P.S. DATs and INIs en-route in an email.

Just tried renaming another PNG (right pane, F2) and upon hitting ENTER to make the rename stick, XY has hung. No crash, just completely unresponsive. I can't even right click on the taskbar item and select close. One (of four) core is fully pegged at 100% CPU usage.

It's all quite mysterious. The error locations don't really make sense. It's unclear what changed between XP and Win7. It's unclear what changed between XY 9.00 (which did not have the bug, right?) and 9.10. It's unclear why I could reproduce the error exactly once, and never again. Sigh. I'll upload another version with several attempts to fix it...

I've still not had it with Windows 7 at home, just Vista SP2 at work...

I'll see if I have an old copy of 9.00 around and see if I can get that to do it as well.

Although I can't even get 9.10.0016 to crash now, even moving the exact same files back and forth

This erratic behavior points to timers, concurrent message queues, race conditions and similar... chaos in one word.
