As You are so kind and interested
I have now switched to the new version 25.10.0102 beta,
I have also restored my old toolbar buttons
using the folder creation method that causes crashes.

I will publish here any error messages as they happen.
Keep in mind that they are only random,
so I can not "bring them about" right away.

Wow, two days now without a single crash !

It looks like I judged the
new XYplorer version (25.10) prematurely
without sufficient evaluation.

It seems that You were right.
Even if I do get a crash tomorrow,
this is hugely improved compared to before.

Right after upgrading to XYplorer
I also changed the method of creating folders (see above)
and then I gave credit for the disappearance of crashes
to this change of method
rather then to the version upgrade.

I have noticed one - totally minor - issue with the new version though.
Auto-refresh, even if enabled, does not happen.
After creating a new folder, I have to manually refresh to see it.
It is not a big bother, but I thought You may want to know.

Another premature conclusion.

There was NO ERROR MESSAGE !!

Still, there is a major improvement
as I stated above.

Happens 100% here. That it does not happen (never? sometimes?) for you might be somehow related to the crash.

Hmmm, good point.

That "auto-refresh failure" is not constant.
Maybe it's presence indicates that something has already
cradhed in the background, and that a full crash is imminent.

Now I will pay more attention to see
if there is a relationship between these two,
and I will let You know.

Then I am tempted to switch to that alternative method
of creating folders that I described above.
To give this new Xyplorer version more time with the alternative method.

But You never answered my original question in this latest
round of communication (I do not mean it impatiently, just curious) :
is there a principal difference - "under the hood" - between these
two methods of folder creation, for example
one somehow touches on shell extensions and the other one does not ?

The reason I am asking :
if there is no difference in substance,
but the difference is only cosmetic,
then there is no point in me trying to compare
these two methods.

Exactly, absolutely possible, I had the same thought. A typical candidate is the shell context menu with faulty 3rd party shell extensions. The crash here is usually delayed and never displays an error message. So, could it be that you were using the shell context menu some time before the crash?

I am not using shell extensions in context menu at all.
I replaced all of that with
XYplorer's "custom file associations" (via toolbar button).

In XYplorer's customization, under General -> Menus, Mouse, Usability
I checked off (activated) "hide shell extensions from shell context menu".

With ShellExView I disabled all shell extensions that I could,
what is left relates to Windows itself.

That is why I was wondering if with all of that
XYplorer in some scenarios could still be affected
by some malfunctioning left-over shell extension.

If the answer is "yes", then maybe You could
strengthen Your option "hide shell extensions from shell context menu"
and make it more absolute ... truly "disable" extensions.

AFAIK "hide shell extensions from shell context menu" does the job. It's basically just a flag passed to Windows, and Windows then doesn't add any shell extensions to its menu.

Hi! I am again just using this thread to report a crash with the version 25.50.0300. I am aware that I am actually not supplying any useful information - I simply wanted to at least report the fact.

Although I was not reporting it, previous versions did crash from time to time. That was without any message. In all cases that I experienced it happened short after creating a new subfolder via right click in the list, then "New items", then on one predefined folder with date in its name. However, my perception is that it does not happen then (the folder indeed gets created) but soon after that, probably after I click in tree on the parent or sibling of a newly created folder. This is at least my impression. Don, if you remember, you once already tried to recreate something like this, "clicking as a woodpecker".

Anyway, this time a message appeared (before the Windows message): "Can not call friend function on object which is not an instance of defining class". The whole issue is (for me) very rare and does not bother me much.

There are some useful details in this report, thanks. Of course, I could not reproduce it now, but the moment will come when it happens, and the following moment will be the one when I fix it.

Is that maxi or mini tree?

Hi! It is a "normal" tree (I guess that's a maxi tree). I do not use mini tree, but I use AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1 (what is meanwhile maybe a default). But maybe that even had nothing to do with the tree - I am really not completely sure where I clicked just before it happened.

I just got it again, but under another circumstances and only with a windows message (XYplorer funktioniert nicht mehr). Everything what follows was happening in the list:

Some 150 - 200 files in list. Right click on empty, new folder, manual inline renaming. Select some 30 of them, including the new folder. Tools menu, right click on selection button, invert selection. Ctrl-X. (My intention: Move these currently selected into the newly created subfolder of that folder.) Selected files are being marked with a vertical red line. All as expected. Double click **in list** on the previously created subfolder (in order to get there and make Ctrl-V). Crash on that double click. The tree of the so frozen app (with Win msg in front of it) shows the new subfolder as the current one (according to the branch background color), but the list still shows the content of the parent folder (i.e. is still not in the empty subfolder).

Have "Select all" button in tools. Right click on that...

Just tried it again. Demn! Not reproducible.

So "Tools menu" you mean the toolbar. Sure.
