hi here,

hmm, I like the easy-to-use lightweight tool that does not have everything in it nobody needs. But I also do NOT like using 2 tools, just because the one I like to use doesn't support one special (good) thing I need to use. So I don't think it would be a good idea splitting up that programm.
But I have to admit, I also like to use UltraCompare. But could have been implemented in Ultraedit? I don't know..

Back to DP:
I used to use Powerdesk over years, and one of it's main points was DP. Well PD was buggy and disturbed my system, so I was lookin for sth better. I found XY and think it is way better.
But I really am one of the few guys missing DP. I do a lot of visual comparing, always doin lots of work in different folders on different servers/drives, and it's really time consuming switching between several tabs. If it was only 2 tabs all the time, it wouldn't be that hard. but sometimes there are 3 or 4 up, and I cannot use ctrl-(shift)-tab for fast switching anymore, getting confused very easily. I often copy & move files around there, and knowing what files (and which versions) are in the other folder, is very important for me. And always switching before moving is a bad Time-eater. So I really hope Don will, in not so very far future, implement the OPTION for switching on DP. Not that anyboy HAS to use it..

Other way round, it would be nice if u guys could tell me a less time consumning way using tabs.. maybe there IS a way i don't know...

Cheers, RP

Hi RP,
Maybe you know already that F7 is great for switching between two tabs. But since you said 3-4 tabs i am not sure how Dual Pane will help either. Sorry, i havent used DP that much so am ignorant here.
But regarding ctrl+tab or ctrl+shift+tab, you can always change those to your liking. XYplorer lets you customize your shortcuts. You will find it under tools menu or Shift+F9. Hope that helped.

hi serendipity,

thx for the shortcuts, I must admit, I have not read my lection from the XY Cheat Sheet today :)

yes, 3-4 tabs won't work with DP either.

Anyhow, comparing and dragging directly (visually) is a great benefit I don't like to miss. Which might be for my work, but not other people's daily work.
I know I can drag to another tab with seXY, but it costs more time. Especially if i want it to open, or if i want to see what is inside there before dragging.. that's my point.

It will open after some time when you drag-hover the tab header. You know that, right? I could make the time until it opens configurable...

Yes, many consider the DP as more convincing or intuitive because one sees what is happening to their files. Some (like you) need it more than others (like me) because of variosu reasons which is fair enough.
BTW, there is a mention about DP in the XYplorer roadmap:

- yes i know with roadmap. but Don told he has no need to hurry with his disliked DP's ;]

-thou a visual comparision would be what i would wish to see in the end, the "instant or time configurable tabopening" would really be great

cheers, ReviewPilot

 You see why we just LOVE the timely support we get here from Don? There have been a couple of times when he's added a new feature almost too quick!
