Based on above, I'd suggest that we all put some minimal system config info in our forum signature...at least the OS that we're using...might be something to request in one of the stickys...

Win98SE, aha! Now I know where to look...
Don, would it help if people put their OS in their sigs?

The last thing I want is massive sigs that many other forums have, but would a very brief mention of their OS be helpful?

Well, it is not very often that the OS plays a surprising role. Most of the differences are no secrets.

Of course, like in this case, if (a) you see some behavior that nobody else seems to see, and (b) you run an OS that's probably rare among most XY users (like Win98) then it helps to mention it in the post. Obvious stuff. No need to pack out the signatures. Me also, I cannot stand them when they come in masses.

Won't 'Cut'

Downloaded V5.20.0062 beta. Same problem. 'Cut' still only 'Copies', unless I use 'Paste Move', then it works OK.

No success! Wasted the whole morning on it, using my old Win95 machine, arrrgh  It's a complete mystery.

Danke !

I'm sure you know this already, but if I open Windows Explorer, select a file and 'Cut' then go to XYplorer and do a normal Paste, it works as it should, delting the source file. Therefore it appears to be a problem with the Cut function in XYplorer - not the Paste function, as I believed before... Thanks again.

Would be interesting to know...

Can someone please explain to me why the 'Cut' and 'Paste' functions in XYplorer can't simply mirror those functions in Windows Explorer ? Why must there be a 'Paste Special' with 'Paste Move' and 'Paste Copy' ? Seems terribly redundant to simple 'Cut', 'Copy' and 'Paste', at least to me. Perhaps if these functions were not there, the normal Cut and Paste would work as they should, even in the old Windows 98. ;-) Simply don't understand why Cut and Paste code in the program cannot be virtually identical to Cut and 'Paste (Move)'... :-( OK, I'll leave this topic alone now, if I am the only one experiencing an issue here. Sorry.

The Cut/Copy/Paste functions of XY do behave just like any others, like in Explorer. The commands in "Paste Special" are extras, allowing you to overwrite the way files were put in the clipboard and force to copy/move files regardless of how they were put in the clipboad (cutted/copied)

Tried a few times, within XY only and with both XY & Explorer, it all works as it should for me, and Cut/Paste always move files.

Yes, but apparently it does not work in old Windows 98 (nor 95)... an open mystery.

On an 8-11 year old OS what do you expect? My sister's run XP on a P2-300 laptop with 64MB RAM. While not exactly fast, it's stable (which is more than you can say for win9x), so is there much excuse for still running win9x any longer?

Vielen Dank!

Hey gbjennings, muchas gracias for your hate review at snapfiles. Hope it made you feel better. Just wondering why you still mess around with overpriced 2-star XYplorer while you can play with absolutely outstanding 5-star freeCommander without even paying for it... *

* I'm referring to one of his other reviews...

Next time you feel like punishing me, do it here in my face, not in my back, okay?!

I haven't fired up my ole W98SE laptop for a LONG while, but did so now, and loaded latest beta on it...and then tried some cut/paste functions...when I cut/paste via Win Expl, it does as it should...when I cut via WE and paste via XY, it also does it right, and shows as "marked to move" on LM...but when I "cut" via XY, it treats it as "copy", so there does appear to be some oddity going on there...

Anyone should be happy to find ANYTHING these days that still supports W98 in any form and which is still being as actively supported as XY!

Oh yes, I'm aware of it. See my last statement on the issue:

So it is an admitted Win9x bug. I will jump on it again within some time.
