Oh, I did not know You would be interested.
Well, then, here are all the active/running Lenovo "exe" files :
utility.exe (in program folder LenovoUtility)
Lenovo.Modern.ImController.exe
LenovoUtilityService.exe
UDClientService.exe
Lenovo is a superb brand (top quality),
so I am reluctant to switch to some cheap & crappy Dell or similar.
Thanks for Your interest !

Well, not sooo interested. I just saw a potential scapegoat.

I understand.
I mentioned it on the off chance
that someone in Your team at XYplorer
might be using a Lenovo
and would have a chance to check
without going out of their way.
Cheers !

This might be useful !!
At last I have a clue that might be valuable for you
clever software developers/administrators.
I mean, it might help you narrow down where the problem lies.
I made a change in how I use XYploer, and the crashing problem is gone !
This is what I did :
so far (while things were crashing) I was using the function ...
Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder "New Folder"
(first creates "generic" folder & then asks for customized name);
now I changed this to ...
Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folders ...
(first asks for name & then creates the folder)
This is the essence of the change,
I also changed (as above) the scripts I use for folder creation
on customized toolbar buttons.
Result : no more crashes !
Well, here is my conclusion & suggestion for further thoughts :
how do the two methods of folder creation differ under the hood ?
I mean does the first method (prone to crashes) somehow
relate to shell extensions while the second method does not relate ?
Or something like that ...
Even it we assume that outside factors (outside of XYplorer)
are causing the crashes, this discovery might help You narrow down
which part of XYplorer is vulnerable to outside interference !
To me this is now merely a matter of curiosity (solving a puzzle)
as my crashes are now gone,
but for You this might have some relation to other crashes
that are reported to You.
Greetings !

Thanks. But I always tested "Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder "New Folder"" and never could get a crash.
But note: The current version will most likely give you an error message if "Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder" fails. Try it and post the message!
Note also: It's possible that the whole issue is fixed in the current version.

Thanks for Your prompt reply.
The current version 25.10.0100 (and 25.10.0000)
i.e. the one with "rapid file processing" (this gave me hope)
did not make a difference to the crashes.
And these crashes were NOT GIVING ME ANY MESSAGES with method 1
Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder "New Folder"
while method 2
Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folders ...
was not crashing - therefore no error messages here either.

Do you also get a crash when
1) you rename an existing folder?
2) you turn off Auto-Refresh?

Do you also get a crash when
1) you rename an existing folder ?
NO - for sure
2) you turn off Auto-Refresh ?
YES - see below
My answer to the 2nd question is a mixed bag of reliability :
for past XYplorer versions it is YES for sure i.e
in the past I tried turning off Auto-Refresh for sure
and it made no difference,
but I do not remember which versions of XYplorer I tested.
It was not left on for long though,
because I need to see what I am doing
(an "un-refreshed" view is pretty inconvenient).
Right now I am quite busy with my work
and have no time for some time-consuming testing
of various XYplorer versions,
but You are most welcome to my experience and feed-back
from what I already know - if that can help.
Thanks a lot !

So you don't press Ctrl+N but go via menu Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder?

I did 4 variations of that - without any difference (crashes with each) :
1. press Ctrl+N,
2. Menu -> Edit -> New -> New Folder "New Folder",
3. ToolBar button running AutoHotKey script with ... Ctrl+N,
4. ToolBar button running XYplorer script with ... new("New Folder", "dir").

1)
new("New Folder", "dir"); crashes as well? There is no rename involved...
2) Crashes also with a fresh instance?
3) Since you are the only one left with those crashes, maybe it's time to turn them down:
Maybe it is an interference by some Lenovo back-ground program,
there are a few - like "Lenovo Utilities.exe" etc.
These are allegedly supposed to speed up my laptop,
so I am reluctant to shut them down.

1) new("New Folder", "dir"); crashes as well? There is no rename involved...
YES, crashes as well.
2) Crashes also with a fresh instance?
YES, I have tried that with some previous versions, not with latest.
3) Since you are the only one left with those crashes,
maybe it's time to turn them down ...
Well, if I am really the only one with crashes,
and I was able to avoid them by changing how I create folders,
then this hardly matters to anyone.
With my latest involvement, I was only thinking of
other possible crashes (experienced by other people) - maybe
my case may add to completing the pieces of the puzzle.
Thanks a lot for Your time anyways !

The next beta (upload within 10 minutes) will have another bug trap. Let's give it one last try.

OK, I downloaded your latest version 25.10.0102 beta.
I will switch once I have a bit of free time.
I am not familiar with that "bug trap" concept of Yours.
What am I supposed to expect :
1. simply no crashes ? or
2. some error messages that You want me to report ?
Thanks !
