Hi Jeff,

thanks for buying again! :D

It was not required technically (one license per person is enough). The employer license is per-workplace; it shall cover the situation where an employer has a high fluctuation of workers, and he obviously would not like to buy each of them a license that goes away together with the worker; instead the license sticks at the workplace and can be used by consecutive workers in that place.
So maybe, if your video business grows, and you hire somebody, the decision will pay off!
Jeff Bellune wrote:The only thing about DOpus that I can't seem to duplicate in XY is their filtering system. It's used throughout the program, and is especially useful in file searching. Their example (and how I used it the most) is a search on metadata in image files. I could find all pictures taken by a particular camera or all files where the flash fired. I haven't figured out how to do that in XY yet.
Yep, that's not possible currently. It is, however, quite easy to add. XY can handle EXIF data already, so a search would not be more than adding an interface (an new Find Files tab "Exif") and a string comparison.
You are the first to ask for it, but since photographers is one of my declared target group, I think I should add that.

EDIT: Exif... okay, that's fotos. I don't know about videos. But you said "Meta" data, so that's probably the stuff you see in the File Info Tips. XY can handle this, too, obviously.

"Metadata" is kind of an overarching term for the file properties, EXIF info, IPTC info, XML data, etc.. So EXIF is just one type of metadata.

I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to manage and catalog my photos, but it is sometimes convenient and/or necessary to access image files directly from Explorer or XY without having to launch Lightroom.

I also use still images in my videos quite a bit, so EXIF searching in XY would be helpful to my workflow.

It would be nice to add the ability to search on Office metadata as well (document properties, custom document properties) Office metadata is often used in SharePoint solutions and other similar apps.

Hi,
I could have used the ability to sort using EXIF data last night. I was putting together a photo slide show for the Grandparents and wanted the photos in chronological order. Any of the images which had been edited ended up with the date they were edited rather than the original date they were taken. So, I used the preview feature to view the EXIF data to manual sort the few out of place images. Being able to do this automatically via the EXIF data would be useful.

Thanks,
Ian.

The only caution I'd express is that, given that, various camera makers have their own extensions to the standards, and dealing with those in this manner might be a problem...and...
Since the EXIF has been mentioned, what about IPTC? Jeff mentioned it, and I've understood that some folks use that to group/tag their pix...

I've used the freeware Opanda IEXIF Viewer to browse this type of data, and they seem to have it covered fairly well...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.
