Probably a stupid question: this relies on some version of WordPerfect to be installed?

Oh yes, it does. So, effectively you must be a lawyer* to make this test.

* google for wordperfect lawyer if you don't know what I mean.

Works with WordPerfect X5 15.0.0.357 on Windows 7 x64 RTM (hooray for VM's and trial versions :)). One oddity: WP seems to open it in partial edit mode in that you can apply attributes to the existing text but you can't add or delete text. In case you perform such edits, WP asks whether so save those changes when pressing the Close WPD button.

Exactly my own experience. Also the menu commands do not do anything. Did not find any explanation nor solution. But since it is a preview, this might pass as ok, and all in all it's better than nothing.

Now I was using exactly the same trial version as you, but on XP (system restore will remove it very soon), so I would like to see a user with an older version. But I guess there are not that many lawyers around in this forum...

Both the menu and the toolbar buttons did work in my test with the limitation noted: that only existing text could be edited. For preview purposes, it would perhaps be nicer to be without the menu and toolbars so that there's more screen real estate available for the preview.

A quick glance at Corel, FileForum and OldApps did not not produce older versions.

Agreed, but documentation is not abundant on this... did not find anything yet.

Just in case this should already work: the PDF preview currently gives a runtime error 429: ActiveX component can't create object, when opening a PDF document with the Open PDF button. I'm using Adobe Reader 9.3.4 on Windows 7 x64.

EDIT: You need to have WordPerfect installed for this!
Sorry to say, it does not work here. First, the WordPerfect opening screen flashes by (as when opening in the application itself; I do have WP installed), and then this appears:
failed.png
XP, and the 'before' is as before - 'open or save' dialog.
I don't need nearly as much the WPD files as I do office, but pity all the same...

My WordPerfect copy is 8.0.0.478, Corel\Suite8\WPWIN8.EXE.

This may be of help (helps me a lot with similar tasks):

Do you happen to know in what year your version was released? I vaguely recall that version; 1998?
