i want to keep it but there is no way to do so if not only keep explorer same time as using xyplorer, and that's not much pleasant.
i do understand that it's not his business but maybe yo can offer some advice-solution?

the situation. i use xyplorer, and like his abilities, speed and low resource usage- that leaves default shell far behind. but still i have to leave explorer, which does nothing but provides tray activities, and at the same time uses even more resources(while almostly not used), then xyplorer(all-beasy) :(

A quick look at other file managers' abilities show that none support completely replacing Windows Explorer. I vaguely remember it being possible in Windows 3.x and 95-days, but I seriously doubt that Vista and Windows 7 would be usable: apart from the task bar, start menu and the tray, there are the common file dialogs, code sharing with at least IE...

Perhaps the biggest reason to leave Windows Explorer alone, is that you're entering non-standard configuration territory. There have been perplexing problems reported in this forum which turned out to be caused by non-standard Windows installs. If WE is seriously misbehaving, I'd look at things like security software and hardware drivers before taking risks with your Windows install.

Ah, I tend to forget not everyone updates from 1.1.1a to 1.1.1b at the first opportunity .

Even with XP I still wouldn't, though.

Did someone in this thread already mention Filebox Extender?

This software modifies the save- and export-dialogue boxes of windows programs and give for example custom shortcuts.

The best part is that this software is now open source and thus free.

Could it be possible to take a look at the source code to see how they do it? If this existing code might help bring similar functionality into XYPlorer?

EDIT:
Filebox won't work properly in my Windows 7 machine, so I searched some more. The best program I found is called Listary. This program is so great! It is saving me countles of hours of unnecessary navigating and frustration. It does exactly what I wanted and seems to work great. Oh yeah and it's free!

Sounds cool, but what does Listary do that XY cannot do natively?

Providing visual feedback for the "type ahead find" feature (it's narrowing the list
of items that your typed reg ex catches. It's really a cool feature.

You could do (and I wished you do, because Listary doesn't work correctly with
XYplorer as the default file manager - It shows it's floating box but isn't able to
show any files or folders inside it) about the same if you'd implement a few things:

1. Show a floating input box that displays your typed text in any of the two panes
(otherwise there is no real visual feedback of what you are about to select).

2. Provide a "live filter" for the content of a pane.
It's the same like the already implemented "Visual Filter" but it's updated in realtime
as long as you are modifying your "search query" (what you enter in the floating box).

Already planned and on the roadmap.

And what happens if you click on an item in that Listary list?

click\Enter - The selected folder \ file will be opened
Esc - The selected folder \ file remains selected

Thanks. Looks like a Live Filter will cover it completely.
