That was how I interpreted it...that it would open your browser and pass the data to it...I've got other apps that do similar things...just a variant on the "Visit our homepage" link within Help sections as typical.

You either misunderstand it or use the word "interface" improperly. At least as I understood it, xyplorer will just open an URL in the form of:

where the username is just the registered name (maybe spaces replaced with _ or something) while the last bit is a hash from the user's key (this one was taken from noir's example above). There is no interfacing happening here, it just opens the webpage in your browser.
Most importantly: XYplorer itself doesn't receive any information from the web in any way, it doesn't even send any since it just opens the browser, where you can see everything it's sending in the address bar. XYplorer just the tool used to calculate the hash and stitch together the link.
You can be SURE xyplorer itself doesn't actively communicate if you have a firewall, just disable any connectivity (outside of the LAN, if you'd like to be able to access network shares). It's just opening a link!
edit (whou, lotsa fast posts): Technically (a tiny bit of) information could be encoded in the hash (especially since the auth key still has to be transmitted), but if there is a way that allows you to login without using xyplorer, you can compare if the auth strings match, then there wasn't any additional information sent.

Yes, that was the idea. But now I think it will just mean more work for me. A percentage of users will not understand it and start asking questions about security. I have not time to answer these.
So I will leave everything as it is. Tip: Login to LL one time, bookmark the beta link, and you don't have to login anymore.

Sorry - I still don't understand the firefox-problem I'm having, too.
When I enter Beta Club, FF logs me in, without any action I have to do.
Couldn't License Lounge do the same?

Yes, good point. Works with cookies I think. I'll check that...
I decided to take another, very simple and non-scary route: Soon you will find a way to bookmark the LL. Sure it might be exploited if you post your personal link with twitter, but you are not like this, are you?

That was my plan from the beginning, but I don't want to raise scares so I dropped the plan.
Roll yourself using scripting...

From a purely technical point of view, I'm just interested how XYplorer actually determines whether a key is legal or not? It doesn't connect to the Internet, so there must be functionality in the code of the main XYplorer.exe that verifies a key's legality. Each key follows a pattern (starts with xy01-... or xy02-...), so there must be something else that alarms XYplorer about a suspicious key.

Oh, I think it's quite easy.
The application just has to calculate the karma of the key (some sort of hash algorithm) and if it is too low it means it can't be legal.
