Unfortunately, that's another way to add duplicate entries. :(
I'm not really bothered by them, but if there's anything else I can do to help you debug this problem, please let me know.
Thanks!

Can't anybody else reproduce this issue?

I tried it a few times but cannot reproduce it. Will keep an eye on this.

Turns out I can reproduce this.

Extracted and ran a fresh copy of v7.60.0016 (release 2), on Windows XP SP2.
Went to "\\ComputerName"
And the tree shows two of them.

How can I help debug this?

Tried the same no luck (badluck).

Hm. Same system here (XP, okay SP3), but no dupes on fresh copy. How can that be explained???

You get the same when you hide the address bar and go via Go to dialog?

Yes, I get the same if I do like you say.

Me too, same thing.
I can give it a try on XP SP3 when I get home, but I doubt that's the problem.

Not sure if it helps but I get doubles if I go to "\\ComputerName" but not if I go to "\\127.0.0.1".

Question: Are we talking exact same name for both here ??

What I mean is : if you start a new XY and type in \\name you see double, right? Now close & start a fresh XY again, then first expand My Network Places, then type in \\name : still double ?

My guess is, when you type the \\name in and MNP hasn't been expanded yet, XY knows there isn't a node for \\name so it adds one, only there was already one like \\Name or \\NAME (i.e. different case), but if it was expanded already, it doesn't, which is why you can't get other computers to be listed twice after that if they were already on Tree. At least that's what I seem to see here...

EDIT: and obviously, \\127.0.0.1 can't have different case, hence no double then.

EDIT 2: crap, I keep forgetting things : When I say "XY knows there isn't a node for \\name" I mean because the case returned by Windows isn't the one you typed in, and this is also why with "Cache network servers between sessions" it doesn't happen. Again, at least that's how it works for me it seems, and why I never noticed anything -- I do cache servers between sessions ;)

Good thought, but no differences in case, regardless of how I type it.

Right, same here actually! Well, I can get different case if I type different case, but if I type it the same I get a dupe with exact same names.

So my guess on case was wrong, but other than that doesn't change the rest of what I said for me:
- Expanding MNP first prevents dupes, because
- I can't get dupes once expanded, so also only the fist computer I go to gets a dupe, since after that MNP is expanded and other computers are listed already
- Caching servers between sessions prevents dupes as well

How about you?

Hmm, so all of you get dupes but I don't?! On a fresh install, so different settings cannot play a role. It's getting bizarre...

Who gets no dupes?

Yep, same behavior.

Also if you disable Auto-Synchronize Tree first, it still expands the Network node and shows double. Though it doesn't jump down to or focus the entered computer, which I'd say is correct behavior, but not sure about it expanding the node.

Yeah, you don't say.

Actually I get two possible results, after I start XY and type in \\name :
- MNP gets expanded with only that computer (the way I typed it, case-wise), no dupes, no other computers either
- MNP gets expanded with all computers on the network PLUS the one I typed (and how (case-wise) I typed it), thus leading to a dupe

But I have no idea what makes XY go one way or the other. Right now I have 3 different INIs (though i didn't change one setting from the defaults, just startup location on one & maybe AB MRU should be different) and I can't say one does one thing and another the other, because I can get either results with any INI.

When there's only one computer on MNP, going there and pressing F5 takes a while for nothing, but a second F5 will get all computers on the network listed instead (removing the one I had typed first, so no dupes). (Although sometimes one F5 is enough...)
Same thing but reserve when there's a dupe, one or two F5 from MNP and the dupe is gone.

So I'd say it definitely doesn't come from a setting but somewhere else. I think that when I get only one computer it's slower than when I get them all & the dupe, which can give even one occasion get almost instant results.

I might have fixed it. Wait for next beta... :)
