Well, as I've been acting as a volunteer backup "promotions director" ( ) and because Don complained about the drop, I'm NOT going to forget about it!
Even if it only results in a handful of sales, it's income that Don can certainly use! Would you want to deny him that chance? I think not!

Besides, there are a number of products that aren't like XY that are there (lesser known/capability), so IF we can get back there, I'm going to do what I can to make it happen...ok?

And...BTW...in last day or so, seems I've already made a minor dent in the wiki armor:

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Wow, "minor dent"? Looks pretty good to me. :D
Now what does it mean? What's next?

Well, given that I'm ok at working in jacky's wiki but that's where WE have control vs WP where I'm a newbie, I've asked this user HDT83 for help, as you may see in the 2nd post at bottom of that page...the restored XY page is kinda in a work area where I presume that it could be tweaked and then he(?) will help approve moving(?) it in place...

I'll do what I can, when I can, but want to keep it as "neutral" as possible, so maybe we can't get as much as we'd like there, but it's better to have a bit less than having it look too much like an advertisement and then get zapped again, right?

Absolutely, it's just about being there. While WP may not represent the core market, the absence from WP is a strong statement about non-notability.

I do agree and lets hope you can get things fair and up to date as XY moves to fast for WP!

In my statement, I thought the evil powers that control WP were untouchable -- well done 'promotions director' it seems they have not met you when in determined mode - great stuff.

It's back!

It's back!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XYplorer

I checked today (last time I checked was maybe 4 weeks ago) just to see that it was re-added today -- what a scary-cum-beautiful coincidence!

Whoever wrote the article -- he obviously planted the term "notable" with care and determination! :)

Thanks to all of you, especially jc_hallgren, for not giving up on this and actually pushing it towards the final success!

:D

Yeah, and now it's been "considered for deletion", again!  :?

I think someone over there really hates XY, or is afraid it'll make some other file managers look bad....

Okay jc, go show them again! ;)

Well, I'm not surprised. The article suddenly turned into bold advertisement! Please, if anybody of you folks here made these changes, take them back to the state before! I appreciate your collaboration, but this was a touch too much!

Thanks!

Well, FWIW, I added to the discussion here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia: ... 9#XYplorer and the original recreated stub article for XY itself can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Hdt83/temp

I definitely agree that someone has added too much advertising to it but I'm not good enough at wikipedia to determine who/when.

I had refrained from editing article to avoid any possible conflict-of-interest issues but may do so now to try and un-commercial it.

The edits that caused the commercialization were by IP Address 77.201.147.100, whoever that is!

Update: Just removed some of the more obvious commercial aspects of listing...

Remember folks...it has to read like an encylcopedia! Not a sales flyer!

Thank you!

Please, also remove the sections "Contents", "References", and "Features". Also the mysterious link to "Comparison of FTP client software" -- huh??

Actually I really would prefer you removed everything that was added 77.201.147.100, apart from the grey Infobox at the right margin! The mere presence in WP is much more important than to list any details in the article!! Please do not risk that presence!

I've just finished tweaking it some more...I adapted the older text, and added a brief minimal mention of three features...see what you think, ok?

I'd rather go for understatement. Please go back to the original article.

I understand your concern, believe me! That's why I'm up a hour past normal bedtime working on this! However, I'd prefer/like to first try and get a bit of feedback from a couple of other wikipedia users before I remove the Catalog/Scripting/UDC sentence, which is the main addition that I'd made...I looked at a few other existing File Manager articles before I wrote it....

The only other changes were a couple of words here and there to make it current, correct, etc...like vers of freeware.

I'll keep an eye on this and have attempted to let them know that article as it looked when marked AFD wasn't quite right either.

Okay, thanks. Now get some sleep. :)
