I'm finding myself struck by an unfortunate case with these MDBU changes.
From fresh:
Enable: General > Menus, Mouse, Safety > Mouse > Single Click on icon opens list items.
Enable: Preview > Thumbnails > MDBU > On file icons as well.
Create PFA: *>::Echo <focitem>;

When clicking the icon the item is only focused/selected when the PFA script has completed.
Prior to v14.40.0305 this wasn't the case - or it was a race condition that focus/selection always seemed to win.

Now I can and will fix my scripts to check <pfaitem> before falling back to the current item/selection which should address the issue. However, I'm probably not the only one with sloppy scripts and a desire to use both of these options.


In the meantime, can XY get closer to the old behavior of selecting before executing the PFA while both options are enabled?

No, I think I have to keep the current priorities. MDBU should not select a file.

Drats... guess there will be no MDBU on icons for me until I can fix my scripts.


This does bring into question if the examples on the PFA and POM sections of the documentation and the default POM patterns should be updated so they continue to work for other "crazy" users - since they all contain <cur*> and <date*> variables.

The POM ones might be okay since they require selecting the item(s) before starting the action from POM - but I imagine users might try to adapt those patterns into PFAs.


EDIT: Though I don't understand why this would force MDBU to select files?
If it cannot be MDBU, then it is selected, then if the user is "crazy" their PFA is triggered.
It works if the PFA is an executable, just not when it is a script.

I don't like this idea one iota since I much prefer opening to MDBU and do not find it crazy at all.

If you want to combine the two options into a single drop down forcing users to select one or the other (or neither) - fine, but please don't flat-out remove single click opening!

No problem. Only very few users will have this combination anyway.

Hi Don, I noticed that the transparent background "png" image files do not display in a transparent background in MDBU. Makecoffee utilizes the transparent background. Would it be possible to make that happen for png images in MDBU? Thanks.

No, this is not possible here.

I *maybe* could show a "Transparency grid", that's all.

the MDBU for text files appears to come in very handy, cool

Now I think, "shrink to fit" could benefit from more differention. Because auf my huge RAWs I have it checked by default. But this renders MDBU for txt files rather useless imho. Could the latter be just excluded from shrinking?

/e: "Useless" means, the text is simply unreadable with "shrink to fit" (includes pdf and word content).

Hi Filehero, I didn't respond initially because I can read the text on my monitors (27" @1920 1080 and 13" @1366x768) and I also use "shrink to fit". What resolution, size monitor and font size are you using?
